Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
I would still say the same thing that I said in post 15 above.
If these things are more important than our other very serious issues then go ahead. lets see if we achieve something.
I guess Turkey & Egypt thought the same - where are they now???????
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
i remember when it was held last year some paindu guys in the crowd started running with the black runners as they were aproaching the finish line and they tried to push them away.it was hilarious.lol
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
Have you ever been to Turkey or Egypt? - I have.
Turkey is probably the most **economically **and socially advanced country in the entire Muslim world (not counting the oil-rich Arab sheikhdoms). By socially advanced I am not praising the extreme laicism imposed by the establishment.
Egypt has a pretty distasteful dictatorship in place, but it is one of the most economically advanced countries in it's region, and some of it's infrastructural achievments are pretty impressive.
No society will ever be entirely free, and prosper in the long term unless it's women are given their due equal rights. First, the women's protection bill, and now the mixed marathon - these are battles we must fight and win, for extremists must be taught that they have had their day!
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
Its one of the most economically and socially advanced country, UAE seems to be much better placed then Turkey given the fact that UAE economy is only 7 percent oil based.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
Taking about a Muslim country doing best among all other muslim countries - yes that would be Malaysia.
Silly Billi,
as i said earlier am not talking about whether its right or wrong. My only point is that its not an importat thing so we shouldn't be wasting our time on creating all the fuss and tension among people. Co-ed marathon won't lead us to better future so govt should just forget about it and pay more attention to other things.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
Were there any hugs and kisses between those brothers and sisters ?
Hey, may be Ameena Wudood was not that wrong to have mixed prayers side by side for only we know that her running mate is for homosexuality… Pakistan is becoming progressive :k:
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
CB
u are right there are bigger issues in the country. so people should not be bothered whether or not there is a co-ed marathon and instead focus their energies on tackling the bigger problems.
But you know our ppl, the whole 'down with this dwn wit that" burn a few tires, toss some rocks at buses, burn a few cars and stores,do general torr phorr, yell and scream and go home.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
CB and is the way to avoid conflicts always to give in to the whims and demands of those who scream the loudest? conflict would only arise if people make an issue out of something. when they try to impose their views on others. So people who are not in favor of this mized marathon can do tobah tobah and not go there or watch it.
I am not in favour of many things that go on, but it does not bother me enough that I am going to go and stop people from doing it. Thus I am not starting conflicts. Otherwise I would be protsting against those late night naat on loudpseaker marathons etc.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
You know why - because they're depressed, tense. They have no way of taking it out. and yes, this is their way of taking all that crap out that they get in their daily lives.
Have we ever thought that hungry people can see us while we are eating lunch/dinner in a restaurant that has glass windows in Pakistan? how do they feel?. so thats what they do - burn the tires.
It is just one example.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
CB I can guarantee that not everyone who takes part in this tire burning, pathrao type stuff is some baychara bhooka nanga gahreb who has been tossed aside by society.
The goons of Islami Jamiat Talba come from uni and college students, and if you know the demographics of Pakistan, you know that these are not poor people for the most part, middle class, workign class etc sure. but not oppressed poor masses.
These people do not always come from downtrodden slums, many of these typs live in gulsan, north nazimabad, pechs, DHS etc.
It is there way of taking their frustration out, sure. But ther eis no way in hell I would say that its the right way.
Lets look at it from the perspective of a guy who worked his butt off, and succeeded against all odds to get educated and became a professional, and then one day his motorbike or car is burnt or damaged by people foaming at the mouth because they have a problem with their govt..or worse yet, teh govt of some country halfway across teh globe. what would you think. how would you feel.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
true, that is why I started hizb e hulla gulla.
but seriously, we cant work on all that is needed, and that is why people should find their calling and contribute in whatever positive way that they can. More importantly joining forces with groups that are already established and working in the area of your choice rather than starting a brand new group.
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
As per your earlier post here regarding Paki pubic's protests, burning tires etc., there are tons of reasons,
e.g. those protesters may not be hungry but look at their whole life - Look at the long lines outside the banks where people have to wait for hrs to pay their utility bills. Imagine when its a hot summer day.
They have to go again an again to govt. offices to get their things done. They've to face the problems that we can't even imagine in western countries.
So this is one big reason for that behavior - for that frustration.
By the way, what is the criteria if someone wants to join this Hizb-e-Hulla Gulla
Re: Lahore mixed marathon held despite opposition - 30,000 take part
so by that token looking ack at my days as a consultant, working 60 hrs in 4 days, and then rusing to get to a flight, which is delayed due to weather, and then getting home atsome ungodly hour only to find that the yahoos lost your luggage, week after week, and that you dont get paid for the overtime, but god forbid you are not on a project for 2 weeks u get laid off..
I have a bunch of tires to burn
I am not convinced of the cause and effect relationship that you are painting. I can understand the frustration and all…happens in other countries as well, but we dont see the type of lameness that we see in Pak.
and what about the guys who are basically shehzaday, servants to go pay their bills, living with mommy and daddy dearest…who go on these rampages. whats their excuse.. i will call it an excuse because there is no justifiation for people maing wrong choices and destroying property of someone else..
