Konain meaning

Re: Konain meaning

So true. Just to add very humbly that in Arabic, there are two types of plurals.

The first type is anything more than one but two of same nature, type or importance and the second is simply anything more than two.

Whenever, two things or beings having something in common in terms of type, nature, importance, relativity or situation are joined or referred together, it is post-fixed with the word, NAIN. Some examples are given below;

  1. HASNAIN i.e. Hazrat Imam Hassan & Hussain (AS) the two grandsons of Holy Prophet (SAW), referred together.
  2. Sani-e-ATHNAIN i.e second (Hazrat Abu Bakr RA) of the TWO (Holy Prophet SAW & Hazrat Abu Bakr RA) in the Cave, referred together.
  3. MASHRIQAIN i.e. the two extremes of Eastern equinox.
  4. MAGHRIBAIN i.e. the two extremes of Western equinox.
  5. ZUHRAIN i.e the the two Silent (Akhfi) prayers of Zuhar & Asr referred together.
  6. MAGHREBAIN i.e. the two Loud (Jehri) prayers of Maghreb & I’sha referred together.
  7. SAQLAIN i.e. the two Heavy Things (Quran & Sunnah or Quran & Ahle Bait) referred together & lastly
  8. KAUNAIN i.e. the two KAUNs or worlds, referred together & not Duniya & Aakhirat.

Wassalam.
