Kids toys and faces

I know but what can we do about that.

Re: Kids toys and faces

We know a couple whose husband burned all their wedding pictures because they don’t believe in pictures anymore.

I question the guy behind his reasoning and the excuse that he gave me was that he believed that Allah was the only on that can create and quoted me the one of of 99 names of Allah

Al-musawwir: which means the one who forms his creatures in different pictures

But it got me thinking that Allah has a lot of other names like Al Wahab (the ones that is generous) and Al Ghafar (the ones that forgives) which are attributes that everyone should have.

Long story short - his explanation didn’t make sense to me.

I have pictures up. We have some dolls. My gals are not into them.

I am anti barbie because of her false representation of women’s porportions but you’ll find big faced and ethnic gal dolls like dora and cabbage patch in my house :snooty:

LOL same here. Except I blame hubby. :D

UZ: I'd rather the woman allowed no dolls than scary dolls with eyes missing! Is she psychotic?

Re: Kids toys and faces

Her daughter must be having nightmares :bummer:. Poor thing.

I know Sahar the only thing she was trying to do is that Hazrat Ayesha (R.A.) used to have cloth doll but no faces. but what she did with the doll is scary

I don’t know may be mama has said something to her daughter.

Its off topic but its a long discussion NJ. Its not about pics its more related to Budhists and their images. As I have heard that when Hazrat Adam (AH) died shaytab put waswasain people’s mind that they are gone now how you are gonna remember them. When people made pictures of those people they started worshiping them. So it is disliked that you take pictures but don’t hang them as you are ready to worship them. That’s my understanding behind pictures logic. What I have heard that you can take pictures but don’t hang them because farishtay don’t enter in those houses.I don’t know where it came but I have to find about that.

Re: Kids toys and faces

UZ - let me know what sources you find out. I think there is a clear difference between pictures and pictures to be worshipped. I can understand the reasoning behind not praying behind a picture, or a prayer room without pictures but in the whole house??

I haven't heard about the faristha thing either but would like to understand the reasoning and behind such fatwas.

Re: Kids toys and faces

njgal, I've heard lectures (by hanafi muftis) who do say that having photos of humans and animals (basically faces where features are clear) would prevent barakah of Allah in that home. Farishtas don't come to that home and carry our duas to the heavens.

I suppose the reasoning behind that is to discourage worship of photos as we humans tend to get carried away (e.g. idol worship or like in Hindus, garlands are placed around dead relatives photos and prayers are made to that person as great honor is given to the departed elderly).

Perhaps for the same reason having toys such as dolls and teddies and such are discouraged.

However, the gunaah is not in the act of playing with a doll for you don't expect a 4 year old to make worship to her Barbie or ask Strawberry Shortcake to fulfil her wishes, but to discourage the entire concept of having "faces" around the house in general as one thing could lead to another...

I know people who use black markers on faces of characters in kids books as well.

I dunno, I think I have more self control that to take these pictures/toys as role models or naoozubillah, some deities...
