My kids used to fight over spots also, so we made them think that the left is especially for one of them and the right is especially made for the other....... seemed to work :)
Also, keep them entertained somehow.. give them books to read, we have tv screens on the headrests so they can watch their cartoons... play some nice music... get them to play 'i spy' etc.....
