Karisma Kapoor, the Indian actress who has tantalised millions with her suggestive dances and powerful acting, married a car dealer yesterday after a whirlwind romance that has captivated the country. Dozens of Bollywood stars attended the Bombay wedding, and about 60 chefs prepared a variety of foods. The groom, Sanjay Kapur, works in his father’s car-parts business, which has annual earnings of about £48 million. Kapoor’s engagement a year ago to Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Amitabh Bachchan, India’s most popular actor, was a major media event. When the engagement was cancelled a couple of months later, with just weeks to go before the wedding, fans were stunned. Kapoor, 28, and Mr Kapur’s engagement last month again shocked the nation. While the pair claim they are deeply in love, the marriage was unusual for Bollywood because it was arranged by the two families. Kapoor is currently starring in the television series Karishma - A Miracle of Destiny..
*Did Karisma ever dream that Sunjay -- brother of her dearest friends Superna and Mandira -- and someone she knew as a child would one day end up marrying her? *

Celebrations at the Raj Kapoor household did not end with chaar pheras and the bride and groom felicitation and the cocktail and lunch that followed at the RK Cottage in Deonar on Monday.
The post-ceremony gala of Lolo ki shaadi with Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur was one never-ending fiesta! At 3:30 pm, a ceremonial wedding cake was cut and the dulha popped a piece of cake into his bride's mouth.
Nitin Mukesh, son of Raj Kapoor's favourite singer Mukesh, then serenaded the guests with songs from old RK hits, while Rishi Kapoor signaled DJ Aqueel's music to be turned off for a while.
Guests who stayed back were Pune tycoon and longstanding Kapoor family-friend Sunil Gavaskar. Unfortunately, a nail hurt Gavaskar bare feet. When a guest asked him why he was carrying his shoes, he said, "I'm now rushing out to have a tetanus injection."
Once the golden oldie numbers and the live music concluded, it was time for the bidaai. Karisma left her father's house with tears in her eyes and boarded the luxury bus to her sasural at Kemps Corner.
The Kapur bungalow was lit up and bedecked with flowers to welcome the new couple. As per tradition, Sunjay picked up his bride and carried her inside the house, where her feet were washed with rose water. The couple, along with Karisma's sister Kareena and Sunjay's sister, Mandira, left for Hyatt shortly.
Later, a quiet dinner in the room and the two sisters-in-law left the couple alone. As per Sikh traditions, the newly-weds were invited by the bride's parents for lunch on Tuesday morning.
Thus, both Sunjay and Karisma visited Babita's house for an elaborate lunch. The couple had already planned to leave for Italy by the 1 am flight for their honeymoon.
