Gov condoles with Loya Jirga and MQM

Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad met leaders of the Awami National Party (ANP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to condole the deaths of their supporters who were killed on May 12 in Karachi. The ANP and JI workers were attending rallies that were on their way to the airport to receive the Chief Justice of Pakistan. The MQM’s members were to reach Tibet Centre from numerous parts of Karachi. “To establish peace and defuse tension in Karachi is the responsibility of all of us and we all should work together for peace and sanity,” the governor said, after offering the Fateha for the departed souls at Mardan House. He shared condolences with ANP President Asfandyar Wali and party provincial president Shahi Syed, who is also the chief of the Pakhtoon Action Committee (Loya Jirga). More than 20 members of the ANP and Loya Jirga were present. Ibad told reporters after the condolence meeting that it was his responsibility to share condolence on the human losses. He said that ethnic harmony between Muhajirs and Pakhtoon had been restored due to efforts of MQM chief Altaf Hussain and the ANP’s former president (Late) Khan Abdul Wali Khan. “That harmonious environment should not be polluted in the cover of May 12 incidents that left all of us mournful,” said Ibad. He hoped that peace would be restored and life would be normalized in this city of lights.

Asfandyar Wali said that according to Pakhtoon traditions, he was thankful to the governor because he had visited for condolence. He said that the Loya Jirga had called for a shutter-down strike and lawyers and political parties including the ANP have announced their support for it. Salahuddin Haider, Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information, Chief Secretary Sindh Shakil Durrani, Secretary Local Government Fazal ur Rehman and District Coordination Officer Karachi Javed Hanif and Capital City Police Officer accompanied the governor. Then, the governor visited MQM headquarters ‘Nine Zero’ where the party’s Rabita Committee Deputy Convenors Dr Farooq Sattar and Shaikh Liaquat, Incharge Anwar Alam and Joint Incharge Abdul Haseeb received him. He offered Fateha for the departed souls of the MQM’s workers killed on May 12. The governor also visited the deputy chief of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Ghafoor Ahmed, at his residence where Ahmed gave him proposals for peace and sanity in Karachi. The governor assured him that the government would ponder upon these proposals. Ibad said that peace-loving citizens were deeply grieved over the May 12 killings. He urged all the people of Karachi to join hands for unity and cohesion and shun the politics of hatred and bias. “My visits are aimed at condolence and it should not be politicised,” he stressed. He said that Altaf Hussain and Pakhtoon veteran Bacha Khan believed in non-violence and they and the party leaders and their supporters would not be involved in violence anywhere. He also called upon the Pakhtoon to play their due role to foil the conspiracy that is aimed at pitting Karachi’ites against each other.

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

Why Isharat Ibad outrightly blamed opposition parties of killing on 12th May!! Hes the governore first and MQM second.. but he tried to blame other parties.. now as it has backfired hes gone back to meet other parties now.. MQM has to publically opologize for its outrageous behavioir on 12th other wise label of a fascest party would be stamped on it for ever..

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

Very encouraging to see, and it’s just what I predicted when I posted this thread.

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

The process of reconciliation continues.

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

But it is again being threatened by MQM's unnecessary and filthy campaign against Imran Khan.

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

Agreed. I believe they are now halting that campaign whereby they have written filthy graffiti on the walls in Karachi against Imran. That was pretty low of them. But I am happy that things are/have returned to normalcy in Karachi.

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

Good to see things are now back to normalcy.

Re: Karachi situation comes to normalcy

MQM terrorist must be taken care of once and for all.

MMA, PML-N strike call fails

Commercial activities continued in major commercial areas across the city as most of the people of Karachi ignored the call for a commercial strike on Friday by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. The opposition parties had called for a commercial strike to protest the killings of Wasif Aziz, a member of the Islami Jamiat Talba and the United Students Front, and of Hashmat Bangash, a member of the PML-N. The big markets in Saddar and M. A. Jinnah Road stayed open. The areas that were the scenes of violent protests against power outages also turned a deaf ear to the strike call. Shopkeepers chose to continue business as usual at Lasbela, Patel Para and Guru Mandir, where MMA leaders used to address supporters. Traffic was normal in most parts of the city except for a few localities. Transporters remained divided because Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI), the main group of transport owners, did not back the call for a wheel-jam strike. “Political parties must realize that the transport belongs to us. As long as the police and government protect us we’ll ply on the roads,” said KTI President Irshad Bukhari. Interestingly, Bukhari, who had been critical of the MQM in the past, appreciated the city nazim and the governor who are both part of the MQM.

Sources in the undeclared joint opposition said that the lack of support from the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was one of the reasons the strike was unsuccessful. Support from some ethnic parties, however, brought partial suspension of commercial activities in Gulistan-e-Johar

Now there is even talk of a PPP-MQM "understanding" ahead of the general election as well. Back to politics as normal.
