welll yeh it is… so what they are sayin in the book?
the earliest 'philosophers' were interested in the world around them.....they wanted to know the building blocks of the world around them
after that the focus changes to human thought! ppl got interested in human behaviour.........about reasoning and rationalising......the discussion between 'relative' and 'absolute'........ppl like Plato were good at this.....
then the book makes an interemezzo to Arabian philosophy and tells that till 800-1000AD Arabs were the most advanced of ppl in the world......but gradually their influence declined..........the main reason for this according to the book is the beginning of 'extremism' in Islam.......this has caused its downfall.
whereas during the early days if islam ppl were encouraged to read other philosophers like Plato, Socrates etcetc and relate them to the Quran...these extremists banned these other influences......and this cuased islamic development to stagnate....
