That's my point CM and what I wrote above. There aren't any "legally" recognized borders for what constitutes current Israel. If there were, then we would also know what "legally" constituted "not-Israel."

Since the Arabs rejected the 1947 Partition which tried to internationally establish the borders of Israel and not-Israel, the land basically has been subject to competing claims and has belonged, from time to time, to different people based on who has had the power to defend it and/or based upon negotiated settlement of disputed claims by the interested parties.

As evidenced by the decades old peaceful coexistence between Israel/Egypt and Israel/Jordan, negotiated settlement is far and away the best route.
