Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
Did you see anywhere in my post where I singled out pakistani umpires? That was something that was common among umpires of almost all countries..
I am just trying to bring some context into this discussion, but I guess it's very difficult to raise the level of conversation here.. after it's just gupshup isn't it?
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
^ Thats a no-ball, not a wide-ball. Anyway, I think we are digressing all over the place to prove a point.
The thing is, it was a fearsome bowling attack, that Indians faced in the West Indies, and they lost. The manner of the loss should be debated. Lets keep away from involving other cricketers, and especially their height, or lack thereof to score points.
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
That's a no-ball alright, but I quoted it in context just to highlight that the square-leg umpire can be consulted (infact, it was the square leg umpire who signalled no-ball to deliveries over shoulder height before the rule was changed to permit 1 bouncer / over).
Thank you Faisal for bringing some sanity into this discussion.
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
Cricket4death, you are getting into a tango. Dude, there was no bouncer limit or no-ball over the head rule in those times. So, bringing the umpires into discussion isn't warranted. Bedi was a darpoke cricketer who would blame anything other than himself for losing. Notice, he only walked out when he was losing.
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
es may kaloun ka kia qasoor,,,etni height factor say ball 'thumping' on the deck bound to rise above them all,, nai? :D ,,I use to call Joel Garner 'wrath garnisher'
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
I believe that a fast bowler has to have aggression, westindians were famous for that, austrlians and paki bowlers also followed their footstep. So its a very lame excuse of not playing the match becasue the opposition player bowled unplayable deliveries. Indians bowlers shud also show aggression but i guess the problem is they don't have any, until then kumble should fullfill this duty, after all he is fast and he tries to show aggression when some one like afridi or saeed anwar is not beating the holy hell out of him:D
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
Well if you look at it, the Indians were pretty good at playing West Indians. Gavaskar made a ton of runs there. I think it was the unsportsman like behavior of the WI bowlers that Bedi was protesting at. Remember, a BEAMER is considered dangerous, even in this day and age. A few months ago Razzaq (yes, with his 120 kph deliveries) was taken off the attack after his two beamers in the VB series. And so was Irfan Pathan in the recent ODI series. If consistent short-pitch, aimed-at-the-body bowling was not considered dangerous, then the Bodyline series would not have made such headlinges. But then those were the days without helmets.
But then again, there was a batsman called Salim Malik who played the Windies fasties in 1986/87 series with a broken arm, plastered and all. It was no mean achievement facing up to Malcolm Marshall at his peak, holding the bat with only one hand, the other arm being plastered and hanging out in front.
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
Faisal bhai,
This is what happened in that series. India defeated West Indies in previous test match by chasing 420 runs. Which was a world record till last year I think.Check the score card of that match below http://www.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1970S/1975-76/IND_IN_WI/IND_WI_T3_07-12APR1976.html
This has been a big insult for then invincible West Indian team. So in next test match what Clive Loyd did is that asked all his bowler to target the batsmen rather than targetting sttumps. Anshuman and Brajesh patel got injured in first inning itself. Looking at that India didnot ask last 2 batsmen to bat because anyway they were bunnies with bat and if they got injured there wouldnot be any body to ball. Chandra was a man with only one hand so he never scored runs. Bedi was also equally bad. In 2nd inning since everyone was injured Indian just declared.
Comparing that with Salim malik story is stupidity. In case if Salim malik they were bowling good but no one was deliberately targetting body.
yes you are right. It was not beamer but shortpitch delivery aimed at body. At that time there was no law to stop it. Now a days you cant ball more than 2( or is it 1) in test matches.
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
On the contrary, Windies were not the invincible side at that time, which they became a few years later…Andy Roberts, Colin Croft, Sylvester Clark, Joel Garner and Malcolm Marshal were all missing…and that is why Gavaskar was able to score runs…
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
No matter who the bowling attack was, scoring 420 in the fourth innings in the Carribbean is no mean task. I however, don't like Bedi for his selective cricket.
Re: Just look at the score card of this test match!!!
hahahah that reminds me of a story that Salman of Junoon told Omar(Lahorimunda), acc ording to Salman he was in the dressing room when Imran asked Salim Malikm to go for bat, and in the same series in prvious match Malcolm Marshall Gave Imran Khan a nasty Bouncer and Imran had a Split FInger…So according to Salman, Malik told him that " M@@n Y@ouy@, Aapaain Dou Hethaaan Naal Nahin Khed Sekdaa Tey Mainoun Aik Heth Naal Peyjdaa Wey.
