but hyphenating isn't like dropping your name totally. it's taking on another name. so say you're last name was salman, and after you get married his last name is farhan, so now you're fariha salman-farhan.
wouldn't that be like middle ground? you're not completely changing your identity and changing something you'd had for like your whole life. after all you are told to keep your last name after marriage
