Judeo Christian Europe

I take that quote from: BBC NEWS | Europe | EU values - united in diversity?

My question is to the guppies living in Europe, do you think this idea/concept/statement should be added to the European Constitution? I personally see no problem in it. After all all Islamic societies greatly emphasize the religious aspects. Is this wrong for Europe?

Also do you really think it makes that great deal a difference? People seem to be taking this phrase way to seriously in my opinion.

Lastly dont move this to politics or religion please. I want a general discussion, not skewed by our resident mualanas or political gurus.

Sorry mate WA you go!

If the people of Europe want it why not.

Personally, I like the secularism of the US much better.

I don't think it's necessary, but it's certainly not harmful. Really this is just throwing a bone to the public who realizes that the EU is otherwise a piece of crap. It's an attempt to give the public reason to think the govt is worthwhile by tying it to them on a personal basis. Isn't that what most of the 'Islamic" govts out there do? They're not Islamic. But by saying they are it makes people happy and think that there may be hope for things to get better since the moral foundation says things should be better.

There are established Protestant Churches in the UK and the Scandinavian countries, which are state-sanctioned and are given primacy over religious institutions of non-Protestant and other religions. Similarly the Roman Catholic Church has a special status and/or influence in countries like Ireland and Poland, while the Greek Orthodox Church has similar preferences in Greece. These are hardly examples of a clear division of Church and State, and full secularlism as practised in many other states?

But that said, I don't think there is anything wrong with such countries or the EU calling themselves "Judeo-Christian" as long as they are honest in admitting this fact, and don't infringe upon the rights of other faiths.
