lollypop man, I think there is some sort of system in Islam where after a divorce, if she keeps the kids, then he still has to pay for the upbringing. I THINK. Not sure though.

Okay here is how I do it. We have 3 accounts total. One joint savings which is linked to the joint checking at one bank. And then I have my own savings at another bank which my hubby is fully aware of. The mutual savings is for our savings together and it is linked to our checking so if we need money for emergency purposes I simply transfer some from the savings to checking. But then I have a savings which is strictly mine and my gift money, my own money goes in there and hubby is fine with that.
There is also a rule in our home if my hubby does or says which is against my wishes, I simply transfer 100 dollars to my savings as a punishment and if the severity of what he has done the fine can go upto 500 easily and he is also perfectly okay with that. And I seriously do that so now he takes the time to think and talk with me first before making any decisions on his own.

mahru, your hubby should take $100 out of your account every time you make runny palak or any other half cooked khana. You will be bankrupt in a month.

Nia - Thanks and I also agree that this is how it should be.

Funguy- well, If i were you, i would not be concerned about me but the snotty atttitude of yours towards your wife's cooking may leave you bankrupt.........................wife will be long gone before you know it! Plus, i am an excellent cook if i may say so myself. And even if it came to the point of him penalizing me i have enough money to last me a lifetime;O), Alhumdolillah! Just think about what my haq-mehar amount is............:)
