seeker other universities that are looked upon highly are University of London (UC, Imperial, LBS, LSE, Kings etc), UMIST, Leeds, Starthclyde etc
Dont worry about what a generic person on the street knows. Its the people hiring you that will matter and they in general know more about foriegn universities.
Pakistan has some great companies. Academia may or may not be as secure as you think because it has its own politics. I do know of one person who did his masters in UK and is teaching in Pakistan now and very content. I know of others who decided to go back to Pakistan and are working with technology companies there and very happy.
I would say keep your options open. Companies like Infosys will give you great experience and of a worldclass level so if you decide to move back out at sometime, your skills will be at par with your peers in the UK.
additionally the financial instituitons in Pak, UBL etc have been ramping up their IT staff but nepotism is a huge factor there.
You may also want to look at IT positions in foriegn banks, like standard chartered and Citibank etc.
Thanks very much for your help. Decision time will soon so i will have to decide.
How much are your friends earning if you don't mind me asking.
I never asked, but they are happy and financially stable.
i know two graduates(brother & sister) of GIKI(its one of the leading uni in pak and is highly respected by the recruiters). they did their bs in computer engineering. they had been getting 20000/mo since they graduated from giki.:/
technical fields normally require a lot of experience and other aspects come into consideration which makes it very competitve to get a high paying job.
Teaching profession might be paying straight after you are done with ur studies.
i don't know that much about english field. but teaching courses like technical writing skills, speech communication and so on at uni level might be paying. if you have a phd, you can be considered for a dean/or similar position in that dept.
I would strongly suggest you to visit as many uni's as you can during this trip of urs
to pakistan.
talk to the concerned ppl in these uni's and see what they say.
