You tell me, can public know if a person is corrupt, rapist, dishonest, Liar, crook, even Pakistani or Muslim?
Does public see their passport, character certificate, bank accounts, criminal record or even if the person is circumcised or not? … Can a voter ask person he votes that to show him his (election contestant’s) tax return and bank account, and question how he got his wealth .. rather, could know what wealth the contestant has and how he acquire them … so that he (voter) can judge financial corruption and character before he (voter) can vote? … Can voter even know of a person he is voting is foreign agent or not? .. or even if that person is Man or Woman (if that contestant is hiding his sexual identity)?
Well, that is why when someone goes into politics anywhere in the world, it is state that vet a person (openly or secretly) and also that person has to go through certain checks (that also could happen openly or secretly, by state functionaries. … If that would not be the case than … even a foreign agent could become Prime Minister of a country … and that is true for most third world countries, especially Pakistan, where most MNAs are commodities (who can be slave of anyone who pay their price. Even while in office, a person is constantly get vetted, because state have to keep making sure that anyone in critical office should be honest, trustworthy and not working for any foreign government (as that could happen anytime for a person).
You should know that for a person in armed forces, intelligence would know each and every move that person makes, who he meets even in private life, who that person is related to, what immoral, honest or dishonest things he does … well, they even know what health problem a person is having … and obviously, if that person is male, female or in between (voters do not even know that about the person he votes, that the person is male, female or in between .. like … hmmm B-R :)).
If things would happen the way you are suggesting, than tomorrow, Gubashan Yadev, backed by Indian treasury, would become Prime Minister of Pakistan. … as he could live in Pakistan for few years, get himself recognised, get Pakistani passport (bribing people in NADRA and passport office ,., where we have many like Nawaz Shareef, living on corruption) … and then with the help of Indian treasury money, establish a party, buy electables, win election and then become PM and then do what enemy country wants.
That is why, person once in politics where it matters, basic check is done by ISI (if they do not than they are not doing their job … and endangering Pakistan) … and with time, most of the person character and background get known (most of it is done secretly) … and then only a person is allowed to move forward in upper level politics. Unfortunately, Pakistani agencies were not concerned about financial corruption of a person, but now it is realised that financial corruption is worse than any thing that can happen to country. A financial corrupt person can harm a country more than foreign agents … and that is why, when a person file to contest election, he has to satisfy election commission about his character and background.
