The fact of the matter remains that buying real-estate by any non-muslim and in some cases any non-native is also prohibited in most middle eastern countries.
The state of israel is one of results of allowing that to happen.

I recall that non natives could nto buy property in saudi arabia. no matter what religion. and only way to get nationality was to be married to a saudi i think. foriegn workers kids who were born in KSA did not get saudi nationality either.

The fatwa was probably taken out of context. It seems to be directed at foriegn jews only, who seem to be lining up to buy land offering large sums. Obviously, this is making the iraqis uncomfortable with the word ‘occupation’ coming to mind and the Israel/Palestine issue doesnt seem to help either.

However sellling of the land to other nations should be for the sould purposes of diplomatic relations. If there is not diplomatic relations with Israel then selling the land in Iraq will result in another mini or maybe even a mega-Israel between iraq and Iran.
