Jessica Lynch "condemns Pentagon"

It’s just the constant stream of hypocrisy that bothers me. She was made out to be a heroine, the eye-raqis were made out to be the devil incarnate - short of torturing her, they did everything else to her. What a load of bs.

Jessica Lynch condemns Pentagon, BBC, 7 November 2003

A US woman soldier who shot to fame after being taken prisoner during the Iraq war has accused the military of using her for propaganda purposes. A video of US commandos carrying a badly injured Private Jessica Lynch from a Nasiriya hospital was released at the height of the conflict.

But the 20-year-old criticised the release of false information about her capture by Iraqi forces.

She also said there was no reason for her rescue to be filmed.

In her first interview about what happened to her, the former prisoner-of-war told ABC television that medical reports indicated that she had been raped.

She said she had no recollection of the attack. “Even just the thinking about that, that’s too painful,” she told interviewer Diane Sawyer.

Miss Lynch, who was serving as an Army supply clerk, suffered broken bones and other injuries when her convoy was ambushed after taking a wrong turn near the Iraqi town of Nasiriya on 23 March. The Pentagon initially put out the story that Private Lynch - a slight woman who was just 19 at the time - had been wounded by Iraqi gunfire but had kept fighting until her ammunition ran out.

But she told Sawyer that she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that her gun had jammed during the chaos. **“I’m not about to take credit for something I didn’t do,” she said. “I did not shoot - not a round, nothing. I went down praying to my knees - that’s the last thing I remember.”

Initial reports also suggested that Miss Lynch had been abused after she came round in the hospital. She says that again was untrue - there was no mistreatment, and one nurse used to sing to her.**

She said she was grateful to the American special forces team which rescued her but, asked whether the Pentagon’s subsequent portrayal of her rescue bothered her, she said: “Yes, it does. They used me as a way to symbolise all this stuff. It’s wrong.”

Miss Lynch was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Prisoner of War medals while still in hospital in Washington DC. Months later, she is receiving treatment for her extensive injuries. Earlier this week, it emerged that medical evidence suggested that Miss Lynch had been raped during her capture.

The assault was revealed in extracts from Miss Lynch’s authorised biography - I am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story - to be released by publisher Alfred A Knopf on Tuesday.

i think it's mostly the Pentagon's version. i doubt the movie will show her as she herself described herself - on her knees, praying; rather the movie will try to depict her in a blaze of glory firing off rounds at the Iraqi opponents.

yeah i've seen that too but i saw it only for a split second, then it faded away, couldn't make out what it stated.

The actress who's starring as Jessica Lynch in Sunday's movie, is actually Canadian... daughter of a former premier of Nova Scotia.

Anyways, load of BS. i'm surprised if anyone would ever believe the Pentagon now. Bunch of liars.

Y'know, I see this whole story as a really good thing: The truth always comes out.
People can hold onto their erroneous beliefs however long they like, but it doesn't mean everyone has to accept them. In this case sensible people disputed the reports from the beginning. Now they're being proven right. Maybe with such a seemingly insignificant matter as this people can learn the necessary lesson and finally apply it to larger concerns. The truth is out in bits and pieces about the buildup to war, the logistics and the rhetoric. Someday folks will put it all together and we can move on and return to life as it should be.

Anyway, I was going to mention the rape bit.. in case Drudge moves the link that's what rally posted. Apparently Lynch was not raped. I know for a fact that in her debriefing she was questioned on this (a matter of routine). To rule out rape they ask about your previous sexual activity. It seems Lynch was a hoochie, but that's not a nice thing to say in public. Too bad the administrative idiots didnt take the time to fully review the interrogation report before pushing the rape story. Now this poor girl is going to be thrust further into the miserable spotlight--that or the pathetic journalists pushing this will wise up and give up on the whole thing.

Jessica Lynch Nonsense

It’s so pathetic how some people can eat up a media blitz. She was so “heroic” wasn’t she? Well here it is out of the horses mouth. She admits that Iraqi doctors and nurses treated her very well, and they weren’t trying to “harm” her as many sources wanted the American public to believe to get them to support the war. She now feels used by the media in order to make a dollar.

When her story broke, some painted her as a “Rambo” who went down shooting – an image Lynch herself debunked in the book, saying her rifle jammed and she went down on her knees praying to God.

She slowly, slowly came to accept that the Iraqi doctors were not trying to hurt her from any meanness, that they tried to keep her alive. But there seemed to be only so much they could do

long live free press in USA, the land of unparallel democracy and whose troops are not allowed to kill civilians directly but instead they are supposed to spray their bullets in different directions and people will get hit on their own by comming in the way of the bullets. only USA can come up with these type of theories just like that MAGIC BULLET theory regarding kennedy's assassination.

Jessica Lynch has also publically stated that an Iraqi nurse sang to her while Lynch was lying recovering in the hospital ward - she said it was some sort of a comforting/soothing song that was being sung to her. This seems a far cry from the vicious reports of maltreatment, abuse, and near-torture that were being hurled at "the Iraqis". Can we imagine any Iraqi POW being sung to by an American nurse? Yeah right. The Iraqis at the hospital treated her far, far better than they have received credit for.

i'm glad she's coming out now to refute this BS, but it's still a bit late. She should hold a press conference and explain truthfully what precisely occurred, how she was treated by the Iraqis, in order to dispel the ton of BS that's currently floating in the media. It's part of the demonization campaign against these people... part of the whole package of lies and disinformation.

‘I’m no hero,’ says Jessica Lynch

US soldier Jessica Lynch, who was taken prisoner in the Iraqi conflict, has praised her rescuers as the true heroes of her story. **
In her first TV interview, to be broadcast later on Tuesday, she criticises the Pentagon’s handling of her rescue as propaganda. “They used me as a way to symbolise all this stuff, It’s wrong,” she said.
**
Miss Lynch and six other US soldiers were captured in an ambush near the Iraqi city of Nasiriya in March.

‘Painful’

Eleven other US soldiers, including Miss Lynch’s 23-year-old friend Lori Piestewa, died in the attack, after the convoy took a wrong turn.

Miss Lynch, who was serving as an Army supply clerk, suffered broken bones and other injuries in the incident.
**
The Pentagon initially said that Miss Lynch had been wounded by Iraqi gunfire but had kept fighting until her ammunition ran out.

But Miss Lynch, a slight woman who was just 19 at the time of the incident, said her gun had jammed and she could not fire back.

She also said Piestewa and others had been far more brave.

“I was just there in that spot, you know, the wrong place, the wrong time,” she said.
**
“I’m just a survivor.”

Extensive injuries
**
In her first interview about what happened to her, the former prisoner-of-war also told ABC medical reports indicated that she had been raped.

She said she had no recollection of the attack. “Even just the thinking about that, that’s too painful,” she told interviewer Diane Sawyer.

Initial reports suggested that Miss Lynch had been abused after she came round in the hospital. She says that again was untrue - there was no mistreatment, and one nurse used to sing to her.

Miss Lynch was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Prisoner of War medals while still in hospital in Washington DC.

Months later, she is receiving treatment for her extensive injuries.
**
Miss Lynch’s interview with ABC and other major news networks coincided with the release of her authorised biography - I am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story - to be released by publisher Alfred A Knopf on Tuesday.

The book was co-authored with former New York Times journalist Rick Bragg, who resigned from the paper after allegations some of his work relied too heavily on contributions by a freelancer.

USA and its love with hollywood

Its so pathetic. I saw the coverage on TV. I don’t know name of the show host, she asked Lynch that some guy Ahmad had the video of her being slapped by “Fidayeen” asking her to reveal information and then Lynch said no, there was no such incident then the host said “how can you be so sure” :hehe: I mean the person who LIVED the part can not be so sure? Why was she pushing Lynch to say “may be it happened”? It looked like that the host was suffering from some sort of shock as perhaps she was expecting that Lynch will confirm what was portrayed by military (rescue, torture etc.)

Y'know.. it's about time for this whole Jessica Lynch story to die out. The truth has come out. Kinda makes you wonder what it takes to bore these slugs that are eating it all up.. they've had this story beaten to death in all directions, a TV movie, a cheap book, etc. What more do they want out of it?

Hell, I'm still waiting for the story to come out of the NCO that actually did something and almost got reprimanded for it.
