yes, nazar is a kind of jealousy. Not really jealousy actually or even envy. Its more like something you have has caught someone's eye or attention.
It can be bad, because what happens is that this thing you have that has caught someone's nazar...you sometimes lose it.
Which is why you shouldn't divulge too many details to others or talk about good things in your life, etc - because other people will see it and you will get nazar.
I never understood it myself totally, but I do know that there is a distinction from envy, although a lot of times, envy is involved.
Like say...you're happy right? La la la - you're feeling great today and you meet someone and tell them "man this is an awesome day, yada yada yada". The person may not even be envious of it - maybe they dont even have tiem to think twice about what you said. But they now have this notice of you - this awareness that you have this positive thing in your life (which they may have also, even)...but its just caught their awareness.
Erm. Yeah this is hard to explain. I'll stop now.
