Javed Miandad - 'Cutting Edge'

autobiographies are supposed to change with time too, my friend. that's what growing up is supposed to do - aka mature you. After 21 years, the incident perhaps did not merit much of a mention.

Seems to me like Imran gets more flak for his perceived arrogance in such situations. I as a Pak supporter definitely agree with Imran's decision. I don't care if Miandad scored 365 or whatever, I want the team to win. Plus why does he talk now about it - I mean Lara holds the record anyways. It's not like Miandad would have owned it forever.

that is what i love about autobiographies, they give us knowledge of events that happened in past. with people's personal views.

By the way, how many autobiographies have u read in which a player said he deos not feel bad from deprieving from a record just because somebody else got it after him.?

**Javed was flabbergasted when, having reached 280 not out, Imran decided to declare.

"Off the field at the end of the second day, there was no talk of a declaration. Imran never brought it up overnight and gave me no specific instructions.

"I took this to mean I was being given a chance to go for all possible records. How wrong I was!" **

I think that sums Javed up, he did tend to look at things from a selfish viewpoint rather than what was in the interests of the team. Imran declared because there was enough runs and he wanted to try to win the match.

Dude, why don't you read the quote again?

"Off the field at the end of the second day, there was no talk of a declaration. Imran never brought it up overnight and gave me no specific instructions."

Shahbash, go ahead. There was no talk of declaring the inning off the field with no specific instruction. Bang your head. Imran Khan declared the inning. How about the Khan Sahib throwing the party after WC 92 tournament and not even inviting Miandad, Raja and Malik, eh? Weren't those players part of the 1992 squad WC?

i hope people realize that Javed deserves alot more acknowledgement than what he gets. just bcoz javed did not belong to elite class like imran and his education background is not as great as imran does not make somebody who can people point fingers at.

Javed was a great batsman for Pakistan, in fact the greatest we have ever produced. He also has a great cricket brain and I think he can do a decent job as a coach with a young team. That doesn't change the fact that chasing personal records ahead of winning games for your country is a wrong attitude for someone who wants a position of authority.

I don't think Javed or Imran's background should be an issue here.

Xtreme dear,

Read the quote again. There was no discussion of declaring the inning off the field. Had the Khan Sahib gave an indication of it night before, Miandad wouldn't have said anything afterwards. The reason, IMO, I feel Miandad was betrayed by Imran Khan then. Isn't it the responsibility of a skipper to make plans with his teammates before going out on the field a day earlier or so? Maybe, Imran Khan should say something about it, so we can have opinions from both sides. Why doesn't Khan Sahib says something about this accident?

Re: Imran-Javed background is not an issue. It's the part of Miandad's autobiography, nothing else.

I back you on Miandad as a Coach of the National team. Sami and Afridi are his classic examples; and I expect more players like them soon to come. Also, Miandad probably, the only the Coach Pakistan got, who's doing his job for past two/three months without signing the contract upto now. :)
