Re: Jan Rambo - A message for the Pakistani media
This is a very delicate issue.
It has to do with many different factors which play in some combination to bring the situation is what it is.
Let me summarize few points here.
1- First thing is Patriotism. This is important and has to be emphasized among the people of Pakistan.
Some idiots think Patriotism means hatred for others but it really is not.
2- The movie business took a nose dive when it was moved from Karachi to Lahore. (Apologize to Lahorians here)
3- Idiots took over the Movie business and brought third class directors and screen writers/actors and they tried to cater low educated people rather than maintaining a standard.
4- The educated class had mostly TV dramas or foreign media to get entertained from.
5- Censorship and religious sanctions took a little more toll on the movie business. (Not that I personally think that should have mattered since quality material could still be made)
6- Now the last few decades we have seen nudity or half nudity and sexual or close to sexual scenes/words/ songs added to the Bollywood media which obviously would get people to turn to rather than somewhat ‘boring’ plain movies made in Pakistan.
7- The money factor plays in and lack of educated people being interested in working in movie industry no matter how clean can it be made makes it difficult to have good quality movies made in Pakistan.
Now the solution is to make quality movies with good theme and bring educated people as much as possible.
Have local poets and writers get involved in making useful movies.
Not all movies or songs have to made on low class Sheela Ki jawani or Munni Badnam Hui theme.
**All of the above STILL does not mean the Pakistani media should promote or bring foreign movies, songs or shows.
While all efforts have to be made to encourage local talent, at least, not discourage those who DO NOT approve foreign media by calling them idiots of making fun of them.
Why kill a good thought?
