Jahaliyat

Re: Jahaliyat

PCG = Jahaliyat = don't know jack about anything :P :D

Re: Jahaliyat

jahalat (PCG refer to mods and have the title corrected) is not illiteracy....
it means 'ignorance' and certainly it can exist in the most educated person/society....

Re: Jahaliyat

"All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure."

I didn't say that...Mark Twain said that. :(

Re: Jahaliyat

Armughal, I mentioned illiteracy and I know jahalat is not being illetrate. I was talking about a totally different thing. In our country figures are manipulated to show the rise in the level of literacy but there was/is never an effort to educate them in the true sense of the word. I guess I went off-tengent there.

Anyhow, even the most educated can be a complete ignoramus. These are the people whom we refer to as parhay likhay jahil.

Re: Jahaliyat

i wish i were a jahal so i could comfortably live among ppl. :p

Re: Jahaliyat

A great sign of Jahaliyat - instead of answering the question to the point, we have people who are debating about whether the word “Jahaliyat” is a real word or not.

Re: Jahaliyat

^ I think your question was answered. People want to explore the word further that would only un-jahil them.

Re: Jahaliyat

I believe by reforming one's own self. By accepting the positive criticism and learning how to transform ones self, the march to bury ignorance would begin.

Re: Jahaliyat

Reminded me of a Sufi poet’s verse which meant:
Aye Allah mujhe danish-mand na kar, kioonke danish-mand buhat dukh dekhte hain

Re: Jahaliyat

Girl! are you on cracks or what?

Re: Jahaliyat

pcg i love u

tell me i’m jahal too

Re: Jahaliyat

so very true. :frowning:

Re: Jahaliyat

Zakk, that's why I ask - how to get rid of the mentality. If its not education, then it must be something else.

Re: Jahaliyat

For Muslims the only platform of unification is Islam...Unchanged, unaltered Word of God...

You take away the platform and everyone spills in every direction...

If a Hadith says, bringing harm to a neighbour is Haram, even with a harsh word, then let it be a unification edict for Pakis...Let every person be aware, educated and instilled with this knowledge from childhood that neighbours have rights...

This is just a small example...Instilling values comes from the house...It can not be undertaken be any government, not even a Khilafa can do that...

Conscience is from the heart...It can be instilled but it can not be taught...A conscienceless nation is a dead nation...

If a father and mother of a child are without a conscience, then there's little anyone can do to raise an aware child...

Re: Jahaliyat

PCG please explain what do you mean by mentality? What happened to ignorance? Are you mantally confused to differentiate ignorance?

How would you categorize the following…

We have bigger houses, but no room for our parents…
We build though houses, but live in broken homes (single parent families) …
We are quick to start a relationship, but also quick to end it (divorce) …
We have more conveniences, but still less time…
We have more degrees, but less common sense…
We have more knowledge, but less judgment…
We are more expert at solving problems, but we create more problems…
We have more medicine, but less health (millions dying from cancer, AIDS, heart disease)…
We have time for parties, but not for friends…
We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life…
We’ve added years to life, but not life to years…
We conquered outer space, but not inner space (who we are - see Muzna for more details on this) …
We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait…
We live on fast foods, but have slow digestion…
We have big men, but small character…
We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers…
Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints…
We spend more, but have less…
We buy more, but enjoy less…
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values…
We have disposable diapers, but throwaway morality…
We don’t eat rotten food, but have a rotten nature…
We have high income, but no money for charity…
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul…
We have high tech ways to communicate (email, video phone etc..), but still can’t get through to each other (quarrels and fights).
We think of Allah/God when we are in need, but not when he supplies…
We blame Allah/God when we suffer, but don’t thank him when we don’t…
We plan and prepare for the retirement years which is at most 30 years, but not for the years after this life (millions) …
We have too much, but give too little…
We don’t need to kill to live, but still kill (meat eating)…

I can go on and on and on… but tell me my dear “P C G” is this mentality or ignorance?

Re: Jahaliyat

ignorance is a state of mentality. by "the mentality" i mean typical desi mentality - i.e. jahaliyat (the STATE), which is ignorace (and the other definitions given here).

Re: Jahaliyat

PeeSeeG, although I am no desi but I can guess, what you are referring to is commonly regarded as attitude. Having a desi mentality or attitude is no big sin because it is a Preference, not ignorance. By not understanding this point I can refer to you as Ignorant but if you continue to defy for no reason than that's a typical desi attitude.

Re: Jahaliyat

Ignorance is a type of attitude.

Re: Jahaliyat

:closed: after PCG’s post.

Anything that opens with ignorance deserves to die with it
PCG, I will give you the last word.
