I wanted to know what the religious significance is of the following:
(if its just cultural nonsense or there is some religious basis to it).

1. People under jadoo (the victims) will smell disturbing odors when no one else can smell them. Often victims report odors of urine or excretion, or garbage, or dead human flesh.

Yes, this is true, the victim can see,sense,smell and hear etc many weird things and experience them while the ones un-affected will not know.
