IVF??? Last option?? :(

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

A Reproductive Endocronologist is a highly specialized fertility specialist who only deals with the causes and remedies for infertility. They do not do deliveries or obstetrics...they concentrate on finding the root cause of the problem. Once you get pregnant and reach the end of your trimester, the RE will then send you back to an obstetrician for the remainder of your pregnancy. RE's are generally much more aggressive then a standard gynecologist. I don't know how it works in the UK, but if you can switch to an RE, it would be better.

IVF??? Last option?? :(

Heyy the nhs is unfortunatley slow but hold out you cn always call up and ask if there are any cancellations and see if you can be seen earlier. Inshallah it all goes well. Im trying to concieve and its a slow process sigh but generally here they dont do nothing unless youve been trying lver 2 years which is a pain

I would wait and see what youe gynae says and see if like Khatti mentioned if you can see the specialist if they offer fhat here in the uk

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

At least in England it's free, here in the US, IVF is not covered by insurance and you have to pay $ 16,000 or so maybe 8,000-10,000 pounds.

Also, remember IVF was invented by a UK doctor/ scientist.

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

It's very state specific. In Texas, the high tier PPO plans do offer partial coverage for IVF. I was very, very lucky...with my first born we conceived him out first round of IVF and were only out of pocket about $5000, plus my RE had a sharing network for unused meds for the stimulation injections. This is was back in the mid 2000's ,....second round when we conceived the twins, insurance was not as benevolent and we paid closer to $10K....not sure what the deal is now with the Affordable Care Act.

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

Even before the Affordable Care Act, health care was starting to run expensive. A few years ago, deductibles were unheard of but now it's quite the norm. You were lucky that insurance covered fertility treatments. People I knew had to pay $20,000 for one cycle, still did not conceive.

IVF is only free for 3 cycles for certain ages doesnt mean it will always work within those cycles anymore you have to pay.

Also there are loads of guidlines age weight bmi how long you have been infertile etc so not everyone unfortunatley gets it so quick it can be a real push to get to that point OP is lucky her dr is pushing it for her

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

@BellaShabba , I know. I was born in the UK and my family lives in the UK. Thing is a lot of doctors will push you to lose weight if you are overweight if you are trying for IVF. At least you get something free. Here, in the US, mostly IVF is not free, not even one cycle.

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

My appointment to see my gynae is 6week away!! :( .. I just want to see her and discuss everything .. I keep calling to see if there is any cancellations but not likely to get an appointment before anyway .. I'm taking everything into account and will talk to her about everything .. does anyone how much ivf costs privately here in north west of england manchester/blackburn/burnley area??

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

Private IVF cost in the UK is 4,000-8000 pounds for one cycle. They are talking about some cheaper options too. Don't know if those are available yet. Some people go to Sweden too as it's slightly cheaper , 6000 pounds. Pakistan of course is way cheaper. Rs 3 lakhs to 6 lakhs for one cycle.

One thing, in some areas of the UK, the NHS pays for one one cycle of the IVF instead of the 3 recommended by the NHS. Hopefully your area shall not be one of those.

How long you must be trying before considering IUI or ivf?

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

Hi .. I've been trying nearly 4years now .. when I had been trying for about 2years my gynea wanted me to go for ivf but I kept putting it off .. now I don't see any other option so that's why :(

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

Does your obgyn know what the issue is? Has your husband been tested?

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

yeah my left tube is blocked .. my husband has been tested he's absolutely fine

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

If you have tubal blockage, then yes, IVF should be your course of action...why are you putting it off? Anything else will run a high risk of ectopic pregnancy, if you were to conceive...why risk that?

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

I know thats true but I thought just maybe I conceive without ivf .. maybe something else might just work .. but sadly no :( ... I had an ectopic pregnancy straight after my wedding .. I hope and pray I never experience that again

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

Hey ladies .. I had my appointment yesterday with my gynaecologist basically she said she does'nt have any option left for me except for IVF :( ... I did go in with the mind frame of saying yes to IVF and after that there was nothing left to ay anyway .. so she is going to refer me to manchester st marys hospital for IVF treatment .. she also said that the after all tests scans etc treatment should start within 18weeks .. she also said that I still have a risk of ectopic as I suffered one before .. I'm so scared :(
has anyone had IVF treatment at St Marys Hospital in Manchester? or even had IVF what is it like .. I'm sooooo scared .. I don't do pain at all so I'm worried even more ..

Re: IVF??? Last option?? :(

Prayers for you! Don't worry about ectopic. The chances do increase but not too much. My mom had an ectopic pregnancy before me. Then she had no problems and had me without any issues. IVF should not hurt much or at all. The injections would be the biggest issue but you do them at home mostly.
