Yup...when in doubt...BLAME the CAPTAIN..right?! After all, he's the poor sucker who's the easiest target.
Wasim Akram does NOT deserve even a bit of blame. He is the greatest Pakistan Captain I've seen since after Imran Khan. He's a confident Captain who strongly believes in the abilities and talents of his team. How else do you think young players with limited or no international experience performed so well uptil the final? Azhar Mahmood, Abdur Razzaq, Shoaib Akhter, Wajahat Wasti, along with the 'experienced' youngsters like
Afridi, Saqlain, etc are gonna be the backbone of this team long after the champions...Wasim, Saeed, and Moin call it quits. We should be delighted that this side got to the World Cup Final after such little preparations. Remember, that Aamir Sohail did his level best to destroy any remaining hope of us lifting the WC after his exploits at home against Zimbabwe..but it was Wasim who stopped the rot and dragged this side to the Final..while teams like South Africa, England, India, Sri Lanka, who have been preparing for the WC for years..got no where near the final.
This should be a source of pride for everyone..that our side is so talented that with such poor preparation..they managed to edge everyone out to get to the final.
Wasim Akram is a great Captain. Pakistan's loss is not his fault. Anyone who thinks that needs to get their head examined.

this thread is about the result of final only...record and facts speak for themselves. Just by simply parroting a line won't change them...it was his overconfidence and bragging that doomed such an excellent chance of lifting the cup again
ManiaX, I couldn't have said it better.. 100% with you!
i agree with you guy. one loss doesn;t mean he is not a good captain. we still need him has a captain.kk frankly are you indian? you sound so much like them.
Dil Dil pakistan
I am indian and I believe that Akram is a very good captain, better than Cronje, stewart, azhar, fleming and so on except steve waugh.
Great to see that at least there are SOME ppl with a head on their shoulders! Way to go guys!
By the way, I rate Was higher than Steve Waugh as a Captain. Waugh is a tough cookie but I dont think he's as street smart or
innovative as Was. If somebody is hamering the Pakistani bowlers around..Was is the kind of guy who would mix things up. Waugh would let things drift. Like Azharuddin, actually.
Was is the best. And he's the man..as far as Pak is concerned.

Captain should first be the automatic choice of the team.
Not only Pak, if any team is asked to choose one baller of Pak in their team, it will not be Saqlain nor Shoaib, it will be Akram. On the contrary, Stewart or Azhar or even Cronje may be dropped from team if they were not captain.
Secondly, he should lead from the front and command respect of the team. A player of Akram's class fits in.
Thirdly, he should be a shrewd strategist, which Akram is. Combined with Miandad as coach, it was a lethal combination.
About Steve, I feel ManiaX , u are not right. The lack of talent in bowling dept. of Aussies is obvious. Before Warne struck form at right time, none except McGrath could do well. So even if the bowler is getting hammered he had no choice. On the other hand Akram leads a team with best bowling attack in the world and it is easier. That is why I rate Steve higher.
Sometimes inexperience troubles, like Shoaib bowled his fastes in the finals. But was pitching the ball in his half of the pitch and not that of batsman. Mediocre batsman like Gilchrist feasted on short bouncy deliveries. Akram had even publically talked about this after SA game. But Shoaib won't learn.
But for Pak, no alternative to Akram. Maybe get Miandad back as coach.

When you have a quick bowler who is just a youngster, 23 years old then it would be a foolish move to ask him to curb his natural aggression and bowl the 'english way' ...ie
pitch the bowl up, allow the seam to dictate the movement of the ball, and cut down the pace in order to maintain control.
Now, 8-9 years from now..Shoaib will end up like Waqar Younis. He would have had several injuries and lost his pace..till then he should keep his pace...bowl as many short pitced deliveries as he wants..and blast the batsmen out. He's done that for over 6 months now and there is no reason to change that just because a slogger like Gilchrist took him for a few runs in the final. If I was chasing 132 in 50 overs, I would have a field day too..throwing my bat at everything..which is what Gilchrist did.
As far as Waugh goes...you have to remember that when Warne and Mcgrath were not performing, the Aussies were losing. They lost to Pak and NZ and looked like going out till Mcgrath blew the Windies away. So, when his two front line bowlers were not performing...Waugh was in trouble..and only scraped through medicore teams like Scotland and Bangladesh...so he is not a better captain in my book cos he's what one would call...a 'safe' skipper. He certainly isent better than Was and definately not as good as
Mark Taylor was.
Nevertheless, he's got one advantage over all of the above..ie..mentally, he's easily the toughest.
In my book..Was is the best Captain in the World right now..followed by Arjuna Ranatunga
( if he stilL has the job ) !
Waugh comes third..and the others arent worth talking about.
