Smart PR, but smarter individuals. Do you think this was a smart move? What if this had happened in the Arab countries or even Pakistan? Do you think people would have turned down such an offer?
I certainly hope more initiatives of the sort are rebuffed and shot down. Religion shouldnt be used for a PR campaign just like it shouldnt be used to justify killing people. Keep religion out of it.
I think its because some Muslim take this war as "anti-Islam" and some don't. SA Muslims who declined dine apparently happen to be taking these wars as "anti-Islam". The war from "obvious" reason does not look like "anti-Islam", but the propaganda war, assaults that come with it are definitely 'anti-Islam'.
MashAllah…This is good news for the Muslims and bad news for the mod-Muslims…The mod-Muslims would chew their fingernails in this show of solidarity amongst Muslims…They will not be able to swallow or explain this show of ‘insolence’ and ‘bad manners’ from Muslims towards pleasing their masters…They will stammer and stutter trying to chalk this up to SA Muslims’ ignorance and their will to disunite the world…
In reality, this sends a very strong message to the American administration that Muslims are now seeing their war against terror for what it really is…A war against Muslims shrouded in the cloak of war against terror…
This is a small yet significant step from Muslims either siding with American atrocities or speaking out against it…
When Dubya gave the invitations to Muslims to the white house, he deliberately left out ISNA, the biggest North American organization to represent Muslims…Why?
Truly, I am pleased with this action…South Africans stood up to show they definitely have a solid identity and roots and they showed it thereby showing they also have a united voice and a definite opinion…
i find, one sad part is that these Muslim South Africans show more interest and concern about issues that are - geographically - distant from them, yet they take on the issues [about Palestine, for eg] as being so close to them. Would we stand up with Muslim Africans about an issue that THEY are concerned about? When was the last time anyone from the Arab League even brought up Aids or poverty in an African country and set out a comprehensive strategy to deal with it? That will be the day.
i know i'm not articulating it well enough, maybe i make no sense. i just feel that the level of brotherhood is not reciprocated.

u really make sense. u have raised valid questions that r to be answered if the title of the thread is to have any justification.
I am extremely pleased with the actions of the Muslims in South Africa. Sadly those in power dont share similar views in the Islamic world.

The regimes in power have no link with there people at all. That is so clear because if you go to any muslim country they cant stand the people in power because they are pro western and always against the intrests of islam and the peoples wishes.
i am pleased with the actions of these Muslim South Africans. i find that it contrasts with actions from particular Muslim organizations/leaders in Washington who gladly accepted invitations from the White House to join in Iftari dinners with Bush and his family. That was my purpose in posting the earlier post above.
Think about how close the Saudi government is with Bush's admin. Think about how much leverage they hold vis-a-vis Powell et al. Have they ever used that influence, that economic leverage, for the Muslims around the world ? As AK47 rightly pointed out, they are just subservient to the US whom they perceive as their real master. These Muslim South Africans are far, far braver and more courageous than many affluent, richer Muslims around the world who could do so much for Palestinians, for Iraqis, for Bosnians, and yet they shirk from the responsibility of strengthening the Muslim brotherhood.
