Islamic group says five members jailed in Syria
AMMAN (AFP) — Five Syrian members of an Islamist group founded in Jordan, Hizb Al Tahrir, have been jailed by Syria’s state security court for between eight and 10 years, a spokesman for the group said here Wednesday.
The spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that two teachers were sentenced to 10 years in prison at the end of November, while a dentist, a teacher and a businessman were each given jail terms of eight years.
He said the five men had already been detained in Syria since 1999, while eight other members of the group from the north of the country were arrested in 2002 and still awaiting trial.
Most of 65 other members of Hizb Al Tahrir, who had been sentenced to terms of between three to 15 years in jail, have “served out their time, some of them a year ago, but Syrian authorities are refusing to let them go,” he added.
The top figure in Hizb Al Tahrir, Jordanian Ata Abu Rashteh, now lives in secret outside the Kingdom, which he left in 1998 after being freed from jail.
Several Turkish officials of the group, which aims to revive the caliphate of Islamic rule, were arrested in May in Turkey.
Comment:
It seems whether you work for Islam using violence or whether you work peacefully it makes no difference to the corrupt muslim rulers, you will be arrested and imprisoned. The muslim rulers know that they cannot challenge the ideas of Islam and the solutions which islam offers to solve poverty and corruption so they resort to arresting the dawah carriers, as if this has stopped the Islamic dawah even in the past. The muslim rulers may have America on their side but those who work for Islam have Allah on their sid einshAllah.
