there is no denying the fact that salahuddin was a lot better than the rest and some rulers like Umar bin abdulaziz(ra) were great muslims too,but by and large by the time the big empires were established the ummayyads,abbassids,ottomans and safavids the conquests had little to do with spreading the faith.It was more about arab/persian/turkish nationalism
and most of the time they were fighting amongst themselves rather than nonmuslims.
We dont call the British French or Spanish empires as "christian empires"
