I had given this thread the benefit of the doubt to turn into a constructive discussion, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Thats the point Das Reich made too i believe. The construction of Taj Mahal may be influenced by arabic architecture (domes, minarets etc) but it has in no way any islamic significance. It is just someone's tomb. Islam does not encourage the construction of such lavish projects unless it is something that benefits the general public such as masjid which have to be built big to accomodate and facilitate a large number of worshippers. In this case its only for one dead person.

So yeah it could have been a hindu temple too. Although given its architectural style i highly highly doubt it.
