I agree with the writer to an extent. Everyone is parroting the rhetoric of ‘highlighting the issue’ without even acknowledging the elephant in the room that her documentaries aren’t shown to the local public who are supposed to be her prime audience for the issues she wants to highlight.

Honour killing/Acid attacks aren’t American issues, they’re related to Pakistan, but if Pakistanis don’t have access to her documentaries, then who is she ‘highlighting’ it for?

The whole country is supposed to gaga over feeling ‘proud’ of her Oscar for the films they haven’t even seen!

Most of the third world countries submit to western pressures like Saudis relenting on not stoning rape victims, or child marriages, genital mutilations etc. Some of the people I knew back home were involved in child slave labor and conceding to foreign pressures things improved.
