Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

Re: Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

Pakistan is a dangerous place for Pakistanis visiting from abroad

Each time my sister goes out with our cousins in pakistan, I fear for her safety

I have no such problem in Canada

Not only is Islamabad probably NOT one of the nicest cities of South East Asia. It is not even in Soth East Asia

huh, just askin both of them, Is India safe place to go? where insecurity is the first question. One can not even think of to go to Bombay or Mumbai, whateva.
I warn every one not to visit India if he/she wants to live any more :nono4:
Gimme break buddy

Wrong, I’m Iranian, not Indian. Get your facts straight.

Again, how often do you see an Indian named ‘navid’? Use your head, not everyone that has a negative view of your country is a bloody Indian.

Insecure you are.

Do you speak farsi?

Yes. Its a dangerous place for anyone. Especially dangerous if you're Caucasian or Oriental. Even more so dangerous if you're Caucasian and want to interview Afghani refugees. Anyone that tells you otherwise is trying to save face.

I'd recommend you romanticize about another refugee group. The afghans are over rated anyway.

Re: Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

Man if you are a white boy than dont go!!! Just google the fates of Piotr Stanczak & Daniel pearl.

Most pakistanis abroad are trying to get their loved ones out of the mess we call pakistan!!

Honestly I used to be soo proud to be a pakistani but since 2007 one thing after another made me give up hope and the final nail in the coffin came when the sri lankan team was attacked and thei security just ran away cowardly!!

I agree with you. I am an American woman who has been associated with Pakistan for 30 years, and I have traveled there a lot both with Pakistanis and by myself. I speak Urdu and know how to dress & behave. I have friends of 30 years there whom I would certainly trust my life to (and have!) I have been honoured by the fantastic hospitality and warmth of strangers there. Lahore is my second home.

Yet, I would think long and hard about going there now. I have seen many changes in those years, and it is not a safe place. The proliferation of guns has changed everything. The chance of a bomb going off in a place a traveler might likely be is too high to take a chance. Worse, the fact of being a foreigner makes all the Pakistanis around you targets, should somebody decide you must even the imagined score or be today's pawn, or simply today's lunch money. And you will not want your friends to be collateral damage in some random stupidity.

And the pollution is really bad! Depressingly, disturbingly so, if you are there for an extended stay.

And that's just for ordinary visiting but what you are planning to do is exceedingly risky. Does Daniel Pearl ring a bell?

Re: Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

^^ please keep drinking chai and stay where you are at. Pakistan and people there will live without your visit.

Re: Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

i think you are a bit late, no more afghan refugees camps around peshawar area (afghan Jalozi camp, Mattani camp, Kacha ghari camp)all are closed but now some area reopen for displaced peoples from Swat and Bajawar. I took photograph from Afghan Jalozi camp recently (demolish mud houses and mosque), if intrested i uploade that.

Sorry dude! I was not aware that an Iranian will get similarly ticked off by being called an Indian as a Pakistani does.

Navid, by the way, can be a very common name among Indian Muslims.

And we are not insecure, as you wrongly think. We Pakistanis easily and openly talk about our failures and shortcomings. What ticks us off is that people who have problems of their own take more interest in us than to focus on solving their own problem.

Some Iranian pick up misconception, spread by the Indian media, about general Pakistanis. I have a good number of very close Iranian friends and have found that generally we become friends very easily. So chill bro!

Thanks for pointing out my mistake about South East Asia. I requote, "Islamabad is the nicest city of South Asia".

Daniel Pearl is a different case altogether. He was no ordinary visitors on an ordinary job.

I have seen plenty of tourists who were white in pakistan last year. People do still visit. Im sure some have visited this year.

I wonder how many of you actually know anything about tourists and tourism in Pakistan. Aurchaipieyo makes some valid points but then again theres crazed killers shooting people in the USA too - you hardly live in the most peaceful country in the world.

I do visit Pakistan alot but im a British born Pakistani so I blend in. I have seen how people watch different skinned people.

Looking at the statistics the number of bombs going off is not that high. How many have gone off in lahore, Islamabad over the past year? In NWFP its higher of course but even then I would not think peshawar is too bad to visit.

I woul dnot personally recommend you going, but then again i would not discourage you. I do hope Pakistanisbecome more protective over foreign nationals after what happened this week.

Lol! Where in Pak??!!

Man I have been in UK for 4 years now and still have not met any white boy who has visitied the tourist heaven you call Pakistan! lol

Have plenty who have gone to Indian & China!!!

On my visit to Pakistan last year i saw quite a few white tourists in Lahore especially - a few in islamabad too but some of those work there. I saw a veryfew in Karachi. I saw a couple in Quetta. I think I did not see any in Peshawar, maybe one or two in Multan. I saw 1 or 2 in Thatta.

In July 2006 I sawplenty ofwhite tourists in Hunza and Chitral. These are the preferred places for any tourists wanting to visit pakistan. Granted 2006was a better year than 2007 and 2008. i saw also some tourists in quetta, lahore, peshawar.

I dont think I have met any white boy from the UK who has been to pakistan but i have metplenty of white people in Pakistan from all over the world - USA, NZ, Aus, Europe, UK,

Of course pakistan only gets a trickle of foregn tourists as compared to India, china but its not totally neglected even today.

Many overland travellers get to India or Europe by going through Pakistan - You would need to visit major touristy areas in pakistan to see foreigners ie badshahi masjid, shalimar gardens, margala hills,

Re: Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

^^ Man u probably saw "hippies" coming to pakistan to get cheap heroin or something. Even if there were 4or5 white tourist coming to pakistan per year, it aint gonna happen now thanks to 03/06!!!

We are all (or used to be) patriotic but the reality is very very grim for the federation of pakistan!!!

:-(

You talkl about Pakistan as if its c ountry where one could fulfill any vice they want to.

There was far more than 4/5 coming. You really need toget out there and discover the country you see as home.

I dont think any tourists havebeen attacked in pakistan over the last few years? There were some pre-2005.

Re: Is Pakistan a dangerous place for european citizens?

Yesterday i arrive to Lahore airport from Dubai, their were more then 20 white tourists !
