Pakistani Abroad, The Quran and Sunnah are both the law for muslims. While the Quran is the complete code of life it doesnt have ALL the laws in it. Where it doesnt explain something we look to the life of the Prophet(PBUH) and then the lives of his Close Companions (Radiallah anhu) for guidance.
The hadeeth and narratives provided clearly point towards a conclusion......
Close contact ? man u got confused. let me explain i have really good friends who are non muslism.I do stuff like going to their house or they coming to mine. Now somebody told me that in Quran it says they can never be your friends and their is probably one ayyah on Shabi who had close friends with non muslims but he left them after accepting islam and Allah liked it. so i need guidance.now come on wat else can be close contact other than having meals together or going out.
Allah Nighaban.
I am afraid a moderator might put a qafl on this thread as well since it has drifted from its original substance, however i'll like to reply to brother Ali.
Dear Ali, when muslims are told that a non muslim can never be a true freind of a muslim, I personally beleive it means this:
muslims means beleivers in islam. And Islam is life, religion, beleif system, philosophy, and ideology (etc..). Hence, beleivers in the phlosophy, ideology and beleif system called Islam can not have true "friends" in other deviated or contrasted systems and ideologies. I am sure that you are already familiar that Allah has proclaimed all muslims as Ummah: a nation. This nation has been given the responsibility of the ideology called Islam, and hence the only true friends/partners/comrades they'll find, would be among themselves.
Just like a communist would never find a true comrade in a capitalist, a beleiver in a platonic state would never find a ture compatriot in an anarchist, a zionist would never find a true "friend" (hum khayal) in a libertarian, similarly, a beleiver in Islam wont be able to find a true comrade/friend/partner in (whatever).
I personally beleive this saying basically applies when dealing with macro levels of muslim society, but on personal levels, like one on one, I beleive yes one can have freinds among other humans: jews etc...
I hope I made some sense

Your statement that the "Qur'an doesn't have ALL laws in it" borders on blasphemy, but you are not to blame.. this is a result of the brainwashing the Mullahs have been doing.
Allah's Book is the source of the Supreme Law. NO man made law can change his laws.
Please Read:
[al-Ma'idah 5:44] Surely We revealed the Taurat in which was guidance and light; with it the prophets who submitted themselves (to Allah) judged (matters) for those who were Jews, and the masters of Divine knowledge and the doctors, because they were required to guard (part) of the Book of Allah, and they were witnesses thereof; therefore fear not the people and fear Me, and do not take a small price for My communications; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unbelievers.
PakistaniAbroad: There is NO judge other than Allah. His Laws in The Book are Final.
[al-An`am 6:114] Say: "Shall I seek for judge other than God? - when He it is Who hath sent unto you the Book, explained in detail." They know full well, to whom We have given the Book, that it hath been sent down from thy Lord in truth. Never be then of those who doubt.
[al-An`am 6:115] The word of thy Lord doth find its fulfilment in truth and in justice: None can change His words: for He is the one who heareth and knoweth all.
PakistaniAbroad: And the Prophet was specifically instructed to use ONLY Allah's Laws in the Book.
[al-Ma'idah 5:48] And We have revealed to you the Book with the truth, verifying what is before it of the Book and a guardian over it, therefore judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their low desires (to turn away) from the truth that has come to you; for every one of you did We appoint a law and a way, and if Allah had pleased He would have made you (all) a single people, but that He might try you in what He gave you, therefore strive with one another to hasten to virtuous deeds; to Allah is your return, of all (of you), so He will let you know that in which you differed;
[an-Nisa' 4:105] Surely We have revealed the Book to you with the truth that you may judge between people by means of that which Allah has taught you; and be not an advocate on behalf of the treacherous
PakistaniAbroad: Please do not sell Allah's Book short just because you haven't approached it with the intensity that is required. Drop all man written books of flowery discourse and study Allah's Book as it is the ONLY and FINAL source for all laws.

Im not calling the Quran Flawed..i have nothing but the highest respect for it AND I SHARE the respect for the word of the Prophet(PBUH)
The Quran's word comes first and the Prophets word comes second.
I see you trying to enforce your view of not following the sunnah on all the people, but i dont see you answering how you learnt to go about your daily business in life because the Quran does not give you the exact way on how to do many things. The prayer and Wudu being 2 obvious things among others
That doesnt mean the Quran is flawed. It just means the information is provided by Allah through his Prophet(PBUH).
As for me being misguided by Mullah's..i dont really follow any particular mullah...i follow the Quran and the Sunnah. And when the Quran clearly tells me that the way of the Prophet is the best way for me..then who am i to argue ? Im a muslim aint i ? And a muslim follows the Quran which tells us to Follow the Quran and the Sunnah.
Case closed...
