Umar, it is possible.. look at some teeny-boppers dating.. they claim they love someone.. and they probably do cus they have romantic (lusty) feelings for one another.. but it doesnt necessarily mean they are in love

^^ :) Haha suroor – c’mon this aint your average love thread… gimme some credit na – I asked a clarification question for somefin that was bothering me – but anyways, I think I’ve found the answer now.
I can now see the difference as a fundamental one between passionate love and companionate love, or what some refer to as Eros and Storge as well.
i) love of an ideal person – i.e. “Eros” or what I think the person meant by “being in love” and
ii) love as friendship – i.e. “Storge” or what I think the person meant by “simply loving someone”
See… I was seeking to put a meaning to my query… it bothered me quite a bit actually.

For me… its Agape (dutiful and selfless love) i.e. a combination of Eros and Storge 
confused yet?.. hehe… I read the terms somewhere in a book in my Psych class during undergrad.

You can love someone without being in love...you can grow to be 'in love' with the same person later...nothing stops you from that.

ohfo. I meant that like Umer put it if you “love” somebody but you are not “in love” with that person. Is that still romantic love?
I mean you can love loads of people but you can only be “in love” with one person.

lol. Well thats what I was saying. That we can love people - I mean friends , family etc, but we can only be “in love” with one other person - that would be the romantic love.

Verry funny bud – although I admit that when something bothers me this much, I gotta really try and find out an answer – I often have these conversations with my brother and we discuss unusual philosophical bits and pieces… yesterday morning I read this column about love etc. and I had to go back to my books, I had to come here and ask you guys etc.

Ok hold on. Eros is lust not love. According to the greeks there were what 4 different emotions of love and Eros was never one of the good ones from what i recall. But hey i may be wrong.
If you are in love you love someone. If you love someone you don't have to be in love. My two pervious examples showed just that.

because alot of times u think u are in love but basically you arent.. and you can still have romantic feelings because u think its love… thats why for some people its easily to get off from love… they may cry for couple of weeks and after that they r out with somone… so for me i dont think its love..
