In all other Ramadan's in the past I rarely used to eat sehri, but this year (considering it's a 16 hour fast) that's not going to fly. Yesterday I had one of the worst migraine of my life waiting for roza to open. And when it did open, I couldn't even eat anything because my migraine was so bad, so I just slept. So lesson learned, this year it's a must to eat sehri.
But if you don't wake up for sehri, then chances are you'd skip fajr too...then what's the point of keeping roza if your namazein aren't getting done? :(
And going back to the non-religious aspect, I'd be very thirsty and hungry and irritable if I didn't eat at sehri. Unless you have to leave for work at 5 or 6 am, you still get a couple of hours of sleep after fajr..

omz, me too. it was so bad. i just had a date and a pakora and went to sleep until midnight where hubby made me get up and eat dinner. i didn't even go to work yesterday and was really worried about today. but alhumdulillah i was fine today. felt a bit nauseous when there was an hr left to iftar but i managed to eat fine. i did sehri this morning and iA will again tomorrow morning.
Niksik - It's true, I'm not going to deny it but when you have to go for work and function, something has to give. For some people, getting a proper night's sleep is more important than the food. Which is why I only last a week with this reduced sleeping pattern. If I get exhausted due to lack of sleep, I will miss Maghrib and Isha (and eating any food during this period) because I will just collapse in the evening.
Now that ramazan is during summer vacation I stay up until sehri but when ramazan came during the school year I would wake up just in time to read namaaz but I never did sehri. It never really made a difference for me. I was always able to participate in gym class and everything else and now when I compare how tired I would get back then its not really different from how I feel now. I guess everyone is different though!
First thing first, its not FARZ but we spent so much lead time in getting ready to go to functions, why not getting ready for Roza?
I just fail to understand that if someone is not waking up for sehri, how will they offer Fajr Namaz? and if you are not doing your namaz, whats the point? Sehri, Namaz, act of kindness etc are small things that differentiate Roza from Faqa.
There are 6 sunnah's for fasting
To eat Sehri or pre-dawn tiffin
To break fast immediately after sunset
To read Tarawih prayer at night
To feed the poor and hungry
To increase the Quran reading
To observe I’tikaf within the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadhaan
For rozay this long (14-16 hours) I would say yes it's bad not to do Sehri. You should try to get up drink some water atleast unless you had a midnight meal.
I totally understand needing the sleep but ensuring that you are not dehydrated is also important.
It takes the body a few days to get used to the new sleep and eating cycle.

I've never had the habbit of having breakfast, so I just can't wake-up and eat. I have water and then pray and go back to sleep. This year the timings just make me really tired.. Fajr is around 4:30, I leave the house at 6 am.. come back around 6-7pm, rush to the graveyard and then our Taraweeh ends around 11pm. I finish preparing for the next day and even though I try and sleep early.. it's still either midnight or 1 am. :(
I have found taking a couple of paracetamols at sehri helps with the lack of sleep and headaches.I leave for work at 5.30am so it's not worth going back to bed for an hour or so,so I tidy up quietly, have a shower and then read the Quran.
I need to have breakfast as much as i need to sleep, so i manage to get up on time for sehri AND have my 7 hours of sleep even if they're not in one go. i just prepare/iron my clothes and bag and clean my room in the evening before iftari so that everything is ready the next day and i can get more sleep.
I know loads of people who don't get up and i can't understand how they manage to go through the whole day with their empty stomach and where their get their energy from if any, and like others have stated, what's the point if you're not getting up for fajr ?
Yeah not being able to catch up on sleep is an issue ... I motivate myself by constantly reminding me that its not like Allah's asked us forever to follow this routine ... Ramadan comes once a year .. we can sacrifice for a few days ... Yes its tougher ... but then once you find the will , believe me it becomes easy to handle ...
I have found it hard to wake for sehri in the past too and a few times during the fasting month i wouldnt. I did get hungry a lot quicker and with the rozay being so long this year (and for the next few years) i wouldnt recommend it! Last year towards the end of ramadan when i was able to i just stayed up till sehri and that made things somewhat easier.
I remember my cousin/bro, during the school week he found it hard to wake for sehri so my mum used to give him sehri in bed lol. somehow he manged not to spill anything in his half awake state.
For those saying if you miss fajr whats the point, well, just cos you miss fajr, doesnt mean you will neccessarily miss the other namazay, or not fast or not follow through with the other things recommended in rozay.
