Is Islam intolerant of other religious minorities?

The non muslims dont pay Zakat, which is 2.5% of all savings over the previous year for muslims (amongst other things also).

would muslims pay a separate tax for protection in the US. Simple question..
[/QUOTE]

Would that mean they wouldnt have to pay normal taxes and instead just have to pay protection at a much lower rate. That would be a more realistic comparison.

Considering non-muslims won't have a voice in governance, ability to lead, legislate etc...what good is a citizenship in that country? Atleast in the US, muslims can run for office, become Presidents even.

plus, you are comparing the cost of services (i.e. protection) in a place which is predominantly muslim..why would non-muslims need protection in Islamic lands..from whom?

^ The US is a very different case in point altogether so let's leave this unique land of ours out of it. If you're going to cite Muslim lands as playing favorites among their own in terms of allowing nationalist governance only, etc. then the case can also be made for European (predominantly Christian) countries like France which have similar rules/laws favoring their own before looking to "outsiders." I'm sure there are numerous such examples prevalent throughout the world and to be frank with you, I don't see anything wrong with protecting your nationalists and giving them opportunities in the State before favoring peoples of other nationalities.

//My goodness they now trying to justify the destruction of barbri masjid what ever next

bunch of sick minded people posting on gupshup how can they talk about tolerance when they think like this!
//

I dont want to use the kind of language that u are accustomed to.
I dont belong to that league.
Coming back to the discussion. You take an argument simply out of context and form an opinion and proudly proclaim that. I said that it in reference to the Buddha statues in Afghanistan. You have no problems about those statues being destroyed and you talk about tolerance.

// Crazy hypothetical, Mats Stick to your own harirama mantras, dude.

As far as the issue of Islam and it being a tolerant/peaceful religion, I think any further discussion on the topic is not necessary since facts speak for themselves...and the facts suggest Islam as being the most progressive, sensible, logical, and tolerant religion (not only in years past/during its inception but even today). Look around you and you'll realize this.
//

And talk about tolerance. If this is the kind of tolerance that you yourself exhibit then the kind of tolerance an ordinary mullah shows is extraordinary. He behads his hostage in the most painless way !!!

I didn't know China or India were mentioned in the Qur'an...

Something interesting about Jizyah, it was only levied on non mulsim males (no children, women, or old people), and it was 4 dinars per year. The dinar was a gold coin worth $40 in present terms (2001).

Interesting indeed.

This thread is cleaned up (somewhat). Any further attempts to derail the discussion or posting mindless insults against others may get you the privilege of receiving a mohabbat-nama from your beloved Admin.

You are citing only extreme cases...let's not let these overshadow the mainstream fact which is that Islam as a religion/theology is extremely tolerant of those of other religions (especially the 'people of the book').
