baghdad was being attacked by the mangols and muslims were debating whether the crow is halal or haram to eat 
these are minor issues… whether someone says ameen out loud, whether they raise their arms before every action in namaz, whether they keep a beard
yes one should try to keep a beard because it is a sunnah of the Holy Prophet(saw) but there is no need to make it an issue of halal and haraam
