Is dating common and accepted in India?

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

dating in India is actually VERY COMMON.
and no, itz not limited to the big metros only.
but ppl in the metros do have live-in and open relationships.
with the BPO culture, youngsters have easy access to huge huge money. so they are financially independent too. plus the night shifts and the stressed environment along with living away from the loved ones means that something goes on in the closed closets.
and unlike before, when dating actually did end up with marriage, itz not that now. and even then, pre-maritial sex is common.
my one cousin sis had a love marriage with her bf of many years, who is also supposed to be of the 'lower caste'. my uncle had an affair with another gal before marrying his present gf. my bro has a gf. many of my cousins have gfs. some of my cousin sisters too are in relationships(not livein/open ones).
and we are not in any big city! and no one from our family has a problem, if they dont ''cross the limits''.
and go to any park, gaden, mall or resturant in India, you sure to find quite a many lovebirds there!

Looking at these replies it looks like as though i have come from a village when i have not …:smack:

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

:konfused: Maybe it’s more of a conservative setting in south India compared to maybe middle or north India.

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

Does open relationship(surprised big time) mean the same thing in India as it does in the west, probably not right??:halo:

I didn’t realize how much lifestyles have changed there. I guess the desi guys and girls that are growing up in the west sometimes tend to be more conservative than the ones growing up in India now.

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

Yeah..south india must be more conservative when it comes to these things. But I wouldn't be surprized that nearly 50% of my classmates will eventually have love marriage even in my classmates. But certainly not anything like open relationship.

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

I can't believe open relationships and live in ones are actually preferred openly in India. Why even get married then since you got all the perks of marriage but then you can leave the relationship any time you feel like and be with somebody else, there's absolutely no commitment. A guy's dream come true...

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

itz not that livein and open relationships are preferred. in contray, they are looked down upon by the older generations. i read about this topic on the net. would try to provide the link.open n livein relations are very small in number compared to the traditional form of relations.

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

yup they do date, u only have to go to restaurants on a friday/sat/sun night to c all teh dates goin on, its more common that every1 thinks. I just go told that my khala datd my khalo, and my grandparenst agreed and they got married:D

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

yea that's the kind of "dating" I agree with as long as the couple doesn't go too far before marriage. it makes life a little easier when there is atleast that much freedom and you can decide who will be the person you would want to spend the rest of your life with. This also doesn't put that much pressure on a girl to decide immediately and so she can actually put her attention towards other important issues in her life like her career. Many times, for desi girls this whole marriage thing can bring so much pressure.

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

it's not a common thing
it's accepted by some families

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

are you talking in terms of India or Pakistan? If it's India that you're talking about, how is it that there are so many varying accounts....are you talking only southern India?

Re: Is dating common and accepted in India?

i think South Indians sometimes get a little conservative. but for the most part of the time, they are really progressive. itz their that all the BPO and IT industry is booming. South Indian cities like B'lore and Chennai offer great living standards.
