no where in Islam has adoption been called haraam/makrooh....
just certain guidelines to follow....
like, if u want to adopt a girl adopt someone for who the husband is a mehra (e.g. his niece) so that even when she becomes an adult she can be with her foster paresnts without having to be in front of them with a hijaab, and similarly a oy who is mehram for the wife so that when he becomes old, the iwfe does not have to come before her adopted son in a hijaab....
but in any case they shall be called by their real father's name....
and they have no share in the inheritance, except if something is left for them in a will....
and more rules/guidelines such as these....
