Is a wedding registry VITAL before the Nikah??? (UK)

Re: Is a wedding registry VITAL before the Nikah??? (UK)

I think it is best practice for a girls family to have the registry before the nikkah, because if u have a nikkah in this country u dont have any FIRM legal standing in a court of law - at present I cannot change any of my documents such as banking, passport and my pension etc because i do not have a civil marriage - if I had my nikkah in pakistan for eg and came back to the uk with my husband then i would not need one, as at the time of my marriage the nikkah was the law of that country - does this make sense?

I am having my registry this saturday - a year later! only because we were waiting for my husbands mamoo to get his visa so he could be present at our ceremony - he missed out islamic wedding due to the long delay with immigration - so its a party for him to enjoy some element of the marriage!

i do know of girls who have divorced islamically but have no legal standing in the uk due to having no civil marraige etc - its vital especially if u have children etc.

i do feel that the government need to streamline this and ensure all imams who do the nikkah have some form of licence - taking into account the death of the girl above :-)
