^ True in all the big major mosques such as Regents Park but some dodgy maulvi will prob do a nikkah without civil certificate. Not in any girl's best interests tho, I would strongly advise against it.
The precautions are there to protect the girl. One of my best friends lost her house a few yrs bk cos hubby (they didn't have civil marriage, only an Islamic one) had the house in his name and in the UK, contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as common law husband and wife. If a man doesn't want a civil ceremony as well as nikkah I'd seriously question his motives and what he might have to hide. Truth is he could have another wife w/ kids u haven't been told about, turn around at any time, dump u and throw u out of the house or even say he never married u. Please be careful.
