Iraqi resistance kills 15 Iraqis

These are the people that want to drive out the U.S. and take over.

Car bomb explodes in central Baghdad

BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded Sunday near the main gate to the headquarters of the U.S.-led coalition, injuring several Iraqis and at least one American soldier, a U.S. general said. U.S. officials said there were “estimates” of 15 Iraqi dead.

Brig. Gen. Mark Hertling, deputy commander of the 1st Armored Division, said the blast was caused by a suicide car bomb.

“It was literally at the last point a vehicle could get to without being stopped,” Hertling said. “The barriers absorbed most of the blast.”

At least three separate fires were seen after the blast. One man was seen lying motionless on the side of the road as coalition soldiers and civilians helped the wounded. Coalition tanks also moved in near the blazes.

These are the people who view their country under an occupation and perceive any means to oust the occupiers and their various accomplices, as entirely legal.

These are the people who do not want a stable and democratic Iraq. Their goal is not to end the occupation as much as it is to re-install themselves as rulers.

"It is yet another stigma on the foreheads of the mass grave regime and its terrorist allies inside and outside (the country), who have no value for sacred things or human lives,” the council said in a statement read by al-Kafai.

Paul Bremer, who is in the United States for the talks with Annan, called the bombing “another clear indication of the murderous and cynical intent of terrorists to undermine freedom, democracy and progress in Iraq. They will not succeed.”

“Once again, it is innocent Iraqis who have been murdered by these terrorists in a senseless act of violence,” Bremer said in a statement. “Our determination to work for a stable and democratic future for this country is undiminished.”

I think the above is self explanatory.

one thing that will happen now though is that as more and more ordinary iraqis are killed, and Bremer keeps up issuing statements condemning iraqi deaths while doing squat to protect them...(2 americans killed, 15 iraqis..american base..).. the americans will begin to be percieved as the lesser evil.

right now the biggest american fear is that in an eventual election (since they did promise democracy) a non-secular government is formed. which is why they're so hell bent upon selection instead of election.

the continual violence against civilians therefore is effectively doing image building for the americans and their more-or-less-ideal government.. which would be counterproductive for the resistance.

therefore, apart from humanitarian grounds, which im sure they have few scruples foregoing, it is in the interest of the resistance to be more deliberate and targetted in who they kill.
