Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

Which Pakistani batsmen has the best record in Test matches against team X?
Which Pakistani batsmen has the best record in ODI matches against team X?

(where Best record = most runs & best average)

Replace X with any country
the answer remains Miandad.

so a little respect to the man.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int’l cricket after Lahore test?

I dont know much about that but I do remember that there was an extra way people used to get Miandad out in India and that was “MBW — Miandad before wicket … out”

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

The only downside of playing another test is that if Inzi has a poor game, his career average of 50.07 would drop below 50!

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

^^ like 49.96?

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

I really don't care as much about his numbers after final test, all I want is that he shows some of his past supremacy in the game, some control, some of his brilliant strokes, timing to make it a fitting finale!

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

go inzi go....

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

^^
Inzi Ultimatum???

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

nahi bhai, just a wish list

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

obviously......even 49.99 is not the same as 50, ask any batsman. ask the late Don Bradman. A mere 4 runs in his last innings and his career average would have been 100 instead of 99.96.

The point is Inzi needed something like 40 odd runs in three innings after he hit 90 odd in the first innings of the second test against South Africa earlier this year. He could have surpassed Miandad then but he failed miserably. So it's not a foregone conclusion that he will do it but let's hope that he plays well and goes out on a high.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

poem devoted to Inzi...

Inzi chaayega baadalon sa...
Nel ko khaayega paagalon sa...

jab aayega inzi khaa ke aaloo...
ntini sochega...ab isko kiidhar ball daaloo...

jab bhaagega inzi...gaayega lahore..dum dum diga diga..
grame smith ka patloon, ho jaayega thoda sa bhiga bhiga...

keep on adding....

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

I just wish and hope he retires happily and achieves whatever it takes to make him happy...after all he's my favorite cricket player after dravid.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int’l cricket after Lahore test?

Miandad is generally regarded as Pakistan’s greatest ever batsman and quite rightly so.

From wikipedia
Javed Miandad - Wikipedia](Javed Miandad - Wikipedia)
“Aged 18, Javed made a debut with a century and soon after scored a double century in the same series to break George Headley’s 47 year old record of the youngest player to score a double century. Javed was the youngest player to score 100 runs on his debut. He scored a century in his first appearance against India in the course of which he completed 1000 runs in 23 innings to become the second youngest to score 1000 runs at the age of 21 years and 26 days.”…the youngest being Tendulkar.

Also Miandad was only 22 years old when he was first made captain in 1980, a Pakistani record

Don’t want to turn Inzi’s farewell test into an Inzi v Miandad discussion but let’s also not forget that Miandad has a better average than Inzi in all formats

  • Tests (52.57 v 50.07)
  • ODIs (41.70 v 39.52) &
  • World Cups (43.32 v 23.90)

Miandad’s test average never fell below 50 whereas Inzi managed to push his test average above 50 for the first time in 2004!

Inzi had more power but Miandad in my opinion was a more dependable batsman than Inzi who rarely failed in pressure situations and meaningful matches. Inzi on the other hand failed in all world cups after 1992 (apart from one or two great knocks here and there like his 80 odd against Australia in the 1999 pool game which we won. Inzi was a newcomer in 1992 and therefore there was no real pressure on him to deliver) when people were expecting great things from him + his test record against the two best teams of his time - Australia and South Africa - is not that great.

That said I sincerely hope that Inzi scores a hundred in his farewell game which would complete a set of hundreds against every test nation he has played against.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

All batsmen of his time incl. Gavaskar and Viv Richards benefited from home umpires, but maybe Miandad more so....

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int’l cricket after Lahore test?

Thanks for being honest. Its rare at this forum.
:salute:

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

Many batsmen may have benefited from home umpires, but in Miandad's unique record case, I don't think upmires would have focused on making sure he is never out for duck.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

That was a fantastic gesture from the cricket authorities . They should have done that to Wasim ,Waqar and Anwar .

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

It was a unnessary gesture. Did viv richards get such a gesture from his board?

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

And who would appreciate that ? It was WI authorities fault . All those greats who served the coutry for a long term deserves a grand farewell. Look at the Aussies ,English ...our own people are a bench of thankless people who love to throw away the greats like **** .

Look at the way the South African players respond to Inzi ,thats the spirit and class which our own people lack.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

So true. Actually Viv Richards himself announced his retirement from test cricket (he played his last test against England at The Oval in 1991 and scored 60 in the second innings, his final test innings) but he never got a grand farewell from one-day cricket. In Lara's case it was the other way around. Lara never got a grand farewell from test cricket. Richards wanted to make the 1992 World Cup his swansong but Richie Richardson's big ego got in the way of his grand plans and rumour has it that Malik did not want Inzi to continue beyond the SA series.

I think this is partly to do with the jealousy and ego factor amongst us desis. Jiss taraf hawa ka rukh hota hai hum sirf aur sirf uss ka saath dete hain aur sirf ussey salam kartay hain jo power mein ho. We simply do not know how to truly appreciate the services of an ageing/retiring/ex sportsman, public servant etc.

Re: Inzimam to retire from Int'l cricket after Lahore test?

I think the best way to truely appreciate their services, is to send them to ICL with strong recommendations :)
