It is both sad and violent. Once of the best known of these poets was Wilfred Owen. He survived 3 years of the war, only to be killed 7 days before the end of the war.

There is nothing to like about actually being in a war - you need only speak to someone who has actually fought to know that. I like studying and reading about war - mankind's tendency for applying violence in a mass scale fascinates me.
