Are you suggesting that Pakistan is the only entity behind supporting Taliban financially, logistitcally and weaponry wise? Why would Pakistan want Afghanistan unstable? What dangers does stable Afghanistan pose to Pakistan?

A stable democratic Afganistan will support India. If there is taliban rule there, Pakistan can get taliban terrorists infiltrate into India. Pakistan will never want to be sandwitched between 2 friendly democratic nations.

You are just stating what we and you see in media. The discussion is who is providing so much ammunition/weapons to the fighting elements? Who is giving them financial support? What does it all mean to US economically, politically and militarily?

I agree that this is what I see in the media, but not without reason. Why is moharram never peaceful in places where there is a good number of Shias' and a good number of Sunnis' living.

One possible reason could be that Karzai/Afghanistan has a definite India leaning, which does not work out for Pak.:)

the insurgency in afghanistan seems to be taking off of late after 5years, so i have a feeling the unknown sponsor(s) is perhaps enticing the us in. "progressive entrapment" this will lead to long term low moral, stop the US from being so keen just like after vietnam. take your pick from;

president karzai's life is on a timer anyway. pakistan doesnt need to be worried by him or anyone like him for the forseable future. the people of afghanistan will 'correct' anyone anti pak pro india

thats cr*p, the people of afghanistan live with us in pakistan in times of trouble. personally when i meet a afghani person i dont even regard him any different to a pakistani AT ALL and ive always received same warmth in return

Pakistan does not want a stable Afganistan, so they will do whatever to keep it like it is. As for Iraq, shias' and sunnis' will keep fighting to gain control. They cannot live in peace and they both have countries supporting them.

An unstable Afghanistan is much more benefical to India than to Pakistan, as we have already seen in the past. The main purpose of Pakistan supporting the Taliban was not to install an Islamic regime in Afghanistan but to have a government in Afghanistan which can stabilize the country. Talibans were the biggest majority there and thus had the best chances to achieve it.

India and Iran have been supporting Shias for a long time. It would be stupid to assume that they had any better motives for establishing peace in Afghanistan compared to Pakistan. It was/is a power struggle to get a government in place which is pro their countries.

India has a major hand in creating rift between the Sunis and Shias in Pakistan. Pakistan Army did a major operation in Timar Garha in N-W.F.P some years back where there was a bloody unrest between Shia/Sunis taking place because of India's involvement there.

We had numerous border wars with Afghanistan before 1979, the Afghan forces were trained and armed by India..

On Indian Orders, Afghanistan ransacked our embassy in 1955

Indian officers use to go to Afghanistan for vacation paid free by the Afghan government...

Afghanistan has always been an enemy of Pakistan and has always been pro-India....
