good news guys. if Shabbir plays, our attack will be much more potent. he was our second best bowler in NZ.
No major problem with Shabbir’s action, say WA University experts
By Waheed Khan
KARACHI: Experts at the University of Western Australia department of human movement and sciences have given a positive first report on pacer Shabbir Ahmed’s bowling action to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“The first reports are encouraging. The people who have initially examined him have indicated they are not pushed with his bowling action and it does not require major corrective measures,” PCB chief executive Rameez Raja said on Wednesday.
Shabbir was reported for a suspect bowling action by umpires Billy Bowden and Darrell Hair after the fifth and final One-day International against New Zealand in Wellington on January 18.
The PCB has sent him to Perth where the Australian bowling coach Daryl Foster will decide if there is anything wrong with Shabbir’s action and if any major corrective measures are required.
"We are encouraged by the first reports which show that
Shabbir’s action might not have to be corrected a great deal," Rameez said.
He said the PCB would sent the clearance and work report from the University on Shabbir’s action to the International Cricket Council (ICC) when it is received.
“Shabbir is definitely under consideration for the home series against India and he is due to return by March 1. We want him to be available for selection which is why we have sent him to Australia for specialist care as we had done in Shoaib Akhtar’s case,” he explained.
However, Rameez made it clear that since the video replays of Shabbir’s bowling action from the fifth and final ODI had not been received as yet, his official six weeks supervision period of the first stage of the bowling action review process had not started as yet.
“It is purely a technical matter basically we have sent him in advance for corrective measures because we want him cleared soon.”
“The first stage six weeks period only starts once we get the video replays from the ICC,” Rameez added.
ICC blooper delays Shabbir’s case
The International Cricket Council (ICC) in a major blooper sent the wrong video tapes of Shabbir Ahmed’s bowling action to the PCB thus delaying the start of his six weeks investigation stage of the ICC bowling action review process.
A PCB source disclosed that the ICC officials had apologized to the PCB for the blunder.
“They sent video tapes of Shabbir’s bowling action which were not the same as those on the basis of which he was reported by the umpires,” the source added.
“They are yet to send the proper tapes and we are still waiting for them.”
From http://in.rediff.com/cricket/2004/feb/25faisu.htm :
Miandad was reported as saying that bowlers like Irfan Pathan were dime a dozen in Pakistan. ''Your Irfan Pathans are in every gully and mohalla of Pakistan. We don’t even bother to look at them," he reportedly said.
Extremely pedestrian comments by Miandad even if it was meant to be a psychological ploy.
I mean there is difference between a paan-waalah and a national cricket coach. On second thoughts , it is fitting that Miandad makes such paan-waalah kind of comments - because he looks like one.
I like it when coaches and captain's are cocky before a big series...but seriouosly, I didn't expect Miandad to say this about Irfan Pathan. I mean he may not be the best bowler, but he aint the worst.
if Indians had Miandad like coach what would have been their response?
Even our grandmothers run better between the wickets than Inzi
or
Inzi looks more like a Sumo wrestler than a cricketer
Or
Shoaib would be better off throwing Javelins
or
Our club-level team can score more runs against Aussies than Pakistan did against them..
Seriously, Miandad needs to hold his verbal diarrhea...I mean what is he gaining by indulging in such low life dialogues??
I agree with both of the above posts.
First of all, it is inappropriate that as a coach, he put down an opposition player. If Inzi had said something, if might've made more sense. Plus, why is he picking on an individual player and a young one at that. If Pathan ignores this as his seniors will tell him to and puts in some decent performances, things will not look good for Miandad or the Pak team.
However, I do think that all Miandad was trying to convey was that India's newfound bowling strength does not intimidate him but he went overboard with the Pathan reference.
Pakistan to issue 8,250 visas to Indian one-day cricket fans](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)
ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan’s interior ministry has announced that 8,250 short-stay visas would be made available to Indian cricket fans for the five one-day matches scheduled next month, officials said.
Vast swathes of Indian fans are expected to apply for visas to witness their country’s first tour across the border in 15 years.
India is due to play five one-day games and three Test matches on their March 10 to April 17 tour.
“We have worked out the details with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and have decided to give around 8,250 visas to Indian fans to watch this historic series,” Interior Ministry secretary Tasneem Noorani told AFP.
Noorani said that 2,500 visas would be issued for each of the two one-day games in Lahore, 1,500 for Karachi, 1,000 for Rawalpindi and 750 for Peshawar.
“The fans will first buy the tickets through the PCB sites and then produce confirmation of their booking to our Consulate in New Delhi to get visas,” he said.
The number of visas for the Test matches would be decided later, he added.
The meeting was attended by secretary foreign affairs Riaz Khokar, PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan and officials of the interior minsitry. The meeting also reviewed security arrangements.
The first of five one-day games is scheduled for Karachi on March 13. The remaining one-dayers will be held in Rawalpindi (March 16), Peshawar (March 19) and Lahore (March 21 and 23).
The three following Test matches will be played in Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
As I said earlier in this thread..HE in One Jjahil cricketter. He needs to learn some manners .Once a cheapster always a cheapster.
^ Its a Rediff article. I wouldn't waste too much time on it. Its probably all crap. Look at "he reportedly said" line. This is how disinformation starts. For Rediff, this is neither the first nor the last time, they have posted unsubstantiated junk.
Miandad's latest salvo is that the Pakistanis don't need a bowling coach like the Indians (reacting to news that India will be bringing their bowling coach).
Yeah, right. So what is Akram doing giving out tips to the team?
I guess Miandad is stupid enough to think Ganguly will get all riled up and say 'teri to.... yeh leh phaink diya coach, ab dekhte hain doodh ka doodh pani ka pani...'
really!:D
^ Not only Akram, but Imran Khan is also giving help to Pak bowlers. As long as its gratis its all fine. Miandad doesn't want PCB to spend money on a paid bowling coach, as that may cut his piece of the pie short. Samajh lagi? :)
Getting riled up against Miandad based on a Rediff report??? Well, I guess Rediff accomplished their mission. They want to bring some ferocity and passion in the series... All the news stories coming out of Pakistan - no sledging and proper player conduct etc etc - are so boring, prim and proper... Rediff wants to change all that. :)
I don’t believe any indian newspaper, why they are the only one who hears such comments and no one else. These news never appear on Cricinfo, Jang or any decent professional website/newspaper.
They were the one who started Wasim Akram giving tips to indian bowlers hangama. I guess they have nothing else to offer. ![]()
![]()
On Rediff’s message board, not a single Indian wants India to visit Pakistan. I wonder why. ![]()
arre bhai, cric is also an indian site. ok forget rediff, toi has the article titled ‘miandad pokles fun at the indians’…
i don’t mind minadad stirring up the passions, only it’s a bit passe. inzi has struck a much more sophisticated note.

Ganguly and Miandad begin attempts at disintegration](http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2004/FEB/079274_PAKIND2003-04_27FEB2004.html)

Many psychological battles are raging ahead of India’s upcoming tour to Pakistan. While Sourav Ganguly has proclaimed that the Pakistan bowling attack is not as formidable as its predecessors, Javed Miandad and Rashid Latif have delivered counter-punches.
Speaking at a corporate function in Delhi, Ganguly said, “They have a good bowling department. But just being fast doesn’t help. They should have quality. The present lot of Pakistani speedsters are not of the class of Wasim Akram who could swing the ball both ways. We have little to worry from them.” A few days back Ganguly had gone to the extent of saying, " … even if we play [at] 60% of our game, we will win the Pakistan series."
But Ganguly has to contend with fierce salvos from the other side. Miandad has never been one to shirk a mental joust and the build-up to the series has him in the thick of things. When asked if the Pakistan team needed a bowling or fielding coach or a psychologist to assist them, Miandad said, “I don’t need anybody’s help now because I believe no one can perform miracle[s] in such a short time.”
Miandad added, “All the cricketers have come through a process and now they don’t need training of a preliminary level.”
Miandad is not alone in this regard. Latif, the former Pakistan captain, branded the Indian team as “under-achievers”. Latif told Mid Day, “They are not the favourites for this series. If you look at their recent record, they have not achieved anything notable in Tests and in one-day internationals, they have choked in the big matches.”
And he also said that the Indians, at times, tended to take a negative approach. “You can count the number of occasions when they have bowled out sides twice in a Test. Which is why they have not won many Tests or series. Plus they are prone to playing negative cricket.” He spoke about how India did not have the confidence to enforce the follow-on after scoring 700 runs at Sydney, “even though Australia was struggling with its bowling”.
“In comparison, look at Pakistan’s record. It may be an unpredictable team but it has won more Tests and ODIs in the last four five years simply because it has had the bowling to bowl out sides twice. Secondly, Pakistan has no big superstar but plays like a unit with every player capable of turning in a match winning performance.”
**He finished with a flourish as he said, “Pakistan has another edge over them [India] — Inzamam-ul-Haq commands his place in the team on pure performance alone and not simply because he is the captain.” ** :hehe: @ ganguly , ishara samjhooo ![]()
