its not racist, its criminal. Indian students carry over $100 in cash on them at all times. This has led to a stereotype. Any petty criminal can beat up one Indian student and get some money. In addition, they work late at night which also contributes.
Anyways, that story is actually a bit fishy. Apparently the police think the man was doing an insurance job on his car and blamed racism.
