The statistics will say that Harbhajan took 4 wickets and Kumble 2 , but their wickets were mostly those of the tailenders. It was really Ishant and Zaheer who set up this victory for India.
All said and done....India still need to do something about the pathetic middle order batting.
1st innings => 167/0 to 320 all out
2nd innings => 200/2 to 269 all out
India can thank Sehwag/Gambhir for letting them out of the jail...but it won't happen everytime.
Also, Kumble's bowling was totally ineffective....(his 2 wickets were of the tail-enders).....and Ganguly is a liability everywhere....while Karthik is emulating Kamran Akmal with the gloves.
On a happy note, Ishant Sharma was "AXE-SELLANT" ( to quote Waqar). Zaheer was good too and a little unlucky...could have got Vandort twice.
I dont know why Karthik is playing like a crap now days. When he came on the scene, he was a better wicket keeper than dhoni. Now he seem to compete with Akmal for the worst wicketkeeper in the world, title. Seems like he lacks genuine confidence and all that aggression he is showing are fake, to mask his lack of self confidence. Its a pity though. I thought he had it in him to become a great wicket keeper for India.

I agree 100%.
There was little to choose between the wicket-keeping skills of Karthik and Dhoni when Karthik/Dhoni played in the same team during the tour of England last year and also before that.
Now, it is not just that Karthik is dropping catches, but he was making heavy weather of even regulation takes behind the stumps....it seemed as if we were playing a part-time wicket-keeper.
Plus, his batting has been abysmal right since the Pakistan tour of India.
Can India afford to play Dhoni in test matches,after his return from rest?
Karthik is a talented guy.He needs to be given some more time.If not,who can replace Karthik other than Dhoni?Playing Dhoni in test matches also will take the energy drained out of him.

right!
He was very good in England, with the bat and with the gloves.
His only wicket keeping experience after that was the matches in IPL. He is no more confident of his place. Somebody need to talk to him.
Its a pity that such talents go to waste.
Well, who would have thought…Sehwag’s (brainless) savagery is now pushed over the mountain.
A year back he was out of favour, dropped from the team, slammed for loose technique and careless attitude. Today, he is a hot star, his stats highlight the value he brings to the table: two triple hundreds, five doubles, 50-plus batting average, feared the world over for his strike rate and savagery.
It is astonishing that Sehwag first converted himself from a middle-order batsman to opener, then repackaged his style to make the change from one-dayers to Tests. For someone who is truly a khatron ka khiladi, Sehwag is an amazing success story.
After the dismissal in the previous Test (caught at square-leg, fetching a short ball from outside off ) Geoff Boycott said Sehwag was a talented but brainless cricketer. Now, after Galle, this distasteful remark only establishes that the England opener has no connect with intelligence or decency.
For long, Sunil Gavaskar has voiced a strong opinion against players and other professionals who run India down, specially those who benefit from the commercial opportunities that exist here but still choose to be condescending and patronising. Some of these gents, unemployable at home, have made a career from insulting things that are Indian.
Gavaskar is right about cricket, and the various things that surround the great game. He is spot on when he says we should not pay outsiders to abuse us. (HT)
YES...Sehwag is "brainless"....and I will say this even if he scores a triple century in each innings of the next Test Match.
Indian Media (dhobi_bhai has quoted from HT) have a tendency to change their tune as per the current public sentiment. Most of what they write is jingoistic BS anyway.
Having said the above, the fact remains that Sehwag is supremely gifted with talent, eyesight, intuition and reflex. Also, sometimes being "brainless" tends to work in his favour. Sehwag has often stood out when his team mates have collapsed around him under pressure....because he does not do too much analysis when the conditions are challenging.....while other succumb to their fear and thoughts.
I do not think Sehwag has decoded Mendis....it is just that he does not "analyze" Mendis as much as his team-mates. Too much analysis leads to paralysis, as they say. He just plays Mendis' deliveries as he sees them....while others are still looking at Mendis' fingers when the ball has gate-crashed into their stumps. At least, that is what I think.
The thing is Shewag's confidence played the part.He is not a technique oriented batsman but he goes after his impluses.The moment he scored his 40-50 runs,his confidence grew and gave him the `thing' to make a big score.That's all.He is like Afridi or Riccardo Powell or like any other player is quite cool but once gets a startoff can do a real havoc on any team and any bowling line.That's why I ealrlier said,before the match started,that Sehwag can do it in his day.
You many not see this performance often but surely his confidence come up and now you can see some splendid nnings from him.
If the next pitch favours a batting one,Mendis will surely off the ground at the the hands of Sehwag.He has acquired his confidence .
A Jhaat like him has the power and not the brain,and he will definitely do better.Anyway Jhaats have done it and proved it on many occassions.They are like Pathans.
