so virat kohli has quietly picked up his 11th century. after more than 80 matches, he also has one of the highest ODI batting averages in history at 48+.
and he's a 23 years old kid...guy is a budding superstar.

When I watched briefly in the morning, match was evenly balanced at ~ 175 for 3 with 20 overs to go. The Ashwin over turned it around. As often happens, first ball of batting power play Sangakara skied to Jadeja. The next wicket was an LBW. The umpire involved has broken Indian hearts in the past - (he is kind of hefty abt 5 ft 9 - ~ 60 yrs). Against Australia or England, he would have not lifted his finger. But against Sri Lanka, he gave out to a ball hitting top of middle stump.
The next over Vinay Kumar took 2 wickets. First one was a clever slower delivery after a 4. The bext was a blinding catch by Kohli at gulley. And it was over.

actually i think there is a huge shortage of reliable big-hitters in the subcontinent. but either way, scoring big and frequently scoring big in clutch situations at a very high batting average are not the same thing. more importantly, why are you discounting performances on desi pitches? subcontinental matches are a huge percentage of all matches played in international cricket. this is a reality of the game and it will only get more subcontinent-centric going forward. evaluation metrics evolve too.
anyway, my limited point is that it's becoming increasingly clear that he isn't just another "promising youngster" but has real long-term star potential.

tendulkar took 7 years and 140 odd matches to reach 10 centuries. kohli has done it in 3 years and 80 odd matches.
