^ The reason could be that Dravid is one of the few Indian batsmen who seems to have adapted well to the English conditions on this tour and they are hoping that he would be able to carry that form into the one-dayers as well
English media is putting these 2 matches victory as such that English team is equal to WI team of 70s/80s and Aus team of 90s/2000s. Yes English team is better team in the series (way better in fact) in terms of fitness, skills etc but.. Lets see what English team can do while visiting Sub-continent. Remember that 2005 Ashers victory and then spanking by Pakistan?
This is a common habit of English media. But I am really amazed after reading about the column of Shane Warn in which he is considering this English side as a new Australia of cricketing world.
It’s an issue all over the world with the Media hyping up the occasion and using term like “GREAT” way too much … you can call 'em moments of brilliance but “GREATNESS” comes after dominating a trade for long enough and in Cricket especially in different countries
If a few of u remember the same James Anderson was ridiculed by the Sky commentators Team during the World Cup and was even dropped for 1 or 2 matches … now that same PPL call him “GREAT” … same goes for other players like KP or Broad etc. etc.
They won against SL only 1 Test out of Three with SL having a Mediocre Attack yet the ODI Series was much closer with England winning 3-2
The Aussies of Steve Waugh dominated the opposition which was visible from the results … Except for India they did beat every Team at home and Away in Tests as well as ODIs … most of the contests were testament to one sided results
I was too young to watch the Windies of '80s but from what i’ve read they must’ve dominated Opposition like no other
True say that media is just media..with English media one of the worst (along with Indian media) when it comes to turning their players into incredible heros when they win..and then absolutely trashing them when they lose.
England is still not the #1 side.. they are very close to taking that title.. and if they continue to perform like they have than they deserve to..
but given the competition for the top.. i would be surprised if they hold on to the rank for a long time.. they are absolutely sht in the subcontinent.. and not too great down under...
but that's for another time.. pehle #1 lene to do :P
Southie, take it easy with the excuses. Umpiring decisions will always go one way or another. That's part of the game. The what iffs are a waste of time.
Suggesting that certain umpires might be intentionally giving bad decisions to India because the BCCI is not pro DRS, is absolutely wrong. As long as I am on umpires, it must be said that Asad Rauf is now the best umpire in the world IMO.
Fact is that England has played much better than India in THIS series and deserve to have the chance to become #1 in tests if this form continues from both sides for the remainder of the series.

Regarding some folks jumping up and down with joy dissing India every chance they get.. Enjoy yourselves.. these moments don't come very often these days** :D
I actually support India & Sri Lanka against England but I also knew that England w'd be tough to beat in English conditions. Supporting a team and knowing what's gonna happen are two different things. Hence my poll thread specifically asked the Q (irrespective of who you support)
All is not lost for India yet. The ODI series should be a close affair and I am backing India to win it
Given that Birmingham and London have been the worst hit by recent riots, will the remaining games now be cancelled? Seems unlikely at the moment but you never know. A number of football fixtures have already been postponed incl. England's international friendly with the Netherlands in London.
Is England a suitable location for international cricket anymore?
Disgusting riot scenes..similar to Egypt Libya Syria and all.
The ICC should immediately cancel all international cricketing events in England due to safety reasons. They should assign a task force to investigate England's suitability to host international cricket in the future.
But wait!!! series cancelled = England win 2-0 and hence #1..
We cannot let these hooligans win. Cricket must go on.
Situation in Birmingham got nasty last night with the murder of 3 Pakistanis by a rioter who over ran them with his car. The guy has been arrested. How this will impact on the match remains to be seen. The Indian and English team are staying in a hotel on Broad street which has been sealed by police.
Toss MS Dhoni calls heads, the coin lands tails up, and England will bowl on a green wicket. "We've got to be on our game if we want to win," says Andrew Strauss. "I would have bowled also," adds MS Dhoni. "It's not the first time we've been under pressure, we've been under pressure in India and outside, it's something we're used to. Sehwag is a dynamic cricketer, he just needs to come out and play his natural game. That's where experience counts. This will also be good exposure for Amit Mishra."
Broad to Sehwag, OUT, 131.0 kph, there’s an appeal first ball! Broad slammed one down short of length and Sehwag leaned back, dropping his hands as the ball passed him … or did it? It nipped back sharply off the seam, and may well have touched the glove. Prior went up straight away, as did the slip cordon. Strauss immediately asks for a review, he seems very sure. Yes, that’s touched the glove! He’s gone first ball! What a start for England
22.1
Broad to Tendulkar, OUT, 142.8 kph, Tendulkar is out! Full, swinging away, Tendulkar pokes and edges straight to Anderson at third slip. That's taken the intensity up a notch! And not only on the field, there's all sorts of lively statements flying around the Cricinfo office right now. Sambit may be feeling a little outnumbered just at the minute ... That is quite a wicket for England, and a second significant scalp for the in-form Broad.
SR Tendulkar c Anderson b Broad 1 (8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.50
This is last pair that can stage India's return in the game. If anyone of Laxman or Dravid is gone now, I'll not bet on India to score more than 150 in 1st inning.
