Ponting has been making arrogant statements
Ponting wanted the record so badly he made the team become wild
Ponting is Aussie captain....

take your pick(s)

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

why shud he appeal when the batsmen is not out, he himself knows he is not out

^ Ponting gave evidence against Bhajju
So giving evidence is now a crime? You can blame ICC or Mike Proctor to accept Ponting's evidence and punish Bhajii but how Ponting is culprit, I fail to understand

Ponting has been making arrogant statements
Just like Kumble? Mind you Kumble is the one started all this talk in the Media.
Ponting wanted the record so badly he made the team become wild Ponting is Aussie captain....
and becoming wild is a crime? What was your opinion when Kumble Bad-mouthed Yousuf to sucessfully provoke him and get his wicket in last tour of Pakistan? was it a "tactic" then and crime now?

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

why shouldn't a batsman walk when he nicks the ball and Umpire is unable to detect it although he himself know that he is out?

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

D6C, have not you seen Ponting giving batsman out with his fingure up in the air. If he didn't see the catch himself, how can he decide Fate of a batsman in a cruicial stage. The way the whole thing happened shows how arrogant and blind he is without any sportsman ship. In normal circumtances, a captain must have reminded umpire to consult with leg-umpire or TV umpire. They would be the best judge not him. The status quo has changed in the ground when Aussies are playing under Ponting. Umpires are so impressed by the mighty World Champions that they almost think that they could not be wrong or can't do foul play. So the weaker will be on receiving side in this case. Look at all 8 controversial decisions in this match and you would know that umpires were like looking for permission from Ponting/Aussies.

I know to begin with, its all umpires' fault. But still the best team in the world don't fall this low to earn a record-equalling victory.

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

over time I have learned it a hard way that there is no such thing as “sportsman spirit” in professional sports. Every single team has shown this with their on field behavior including India and Pakistan. Why do we expect Ponting to be a FRAISHTA and that too on the verge of new record?

If we talk about the same game, on 5th day morning, was bowling a yard out side the leg stump (by Kumble himself) and 2 yards outside the off stump (by seamers) the perfect sportsman spirit? What were Indian bowlers trying to do? they were using all tactics (-ive and +ive) they can can to somehow stop the flow of run and ultimately avoid the defeat, was that a sportsman spirit?

What I am saying that only Umpires are to be blamed for incompetent umpiring and not Ponting or other Aus players (not that they are Farishta)

on sideline here is whats on stake
Bhajji row may cause ESPN-STAR Rs 90 crore loss

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

1) Ponting's lack of integrity had just been proven on the field. therefore his giving evidence or it being accepted are both a crime. Indeed. You want accept the evidence of a proven liar?

2) No Kumble did not start. Just go back even for years before Kumble became a captain to see what all Ponting has been saying.

3) yes becoming wild is wrong, because it may and did lead to criminal behavior. In this case Ponting had gotten his team so wild that they have taken sledging to new levels. For a clear nick, Symmonds did not walk; for a clear drop Ponting claimed..

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

what did kumble say that was arrogent. ponting is arrogent and nobody will deny that. It is ok.. but being dishonest captain, of one of the most successfull team should be questioned. Do they need to cheat to win. That itself is a lose for them, because they are afriad of the indians.:)

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

:hehe:

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

^otherwise give me one reason for them to cheat.:)

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

I personally feel that Indian team is wasting their time on this drama. The game is over, all decisions rest on ICC hands, they can discuss this matter after the tour. India is distracted and the tour is still on. Even if they feel cheated, they should be proud of their performance of 2nd Test. They performed much better as compared to first test.

Australia on the other hand has moved on and is focusing on the rest of the tour. They can beat India by long margin in coming two tests and this story will be completly forgotten.

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

I blame Ponting for the catch which he grounded, not the incident where he raised his finger. He has the right to raise which ever finger he wants when he is appealing. It is the umpire who didn't consult the other two umpires who needs to be fired.

As for the tour suspension, I don't think India has the balls to follow through with it.

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

Nothing to do with balls, pure politics now. Dalmiya (former BCCI chief) this morning came out and helpfully said that if he were still chief, he would not only have boycotted the series, but also "got the Sydney test annulled" :) So suspending the series is the least Pawar could do.

All this noise and fury from the BCCI is purely for public consumption - wouldnt be surprised if a deal has already been worked out with the ICC, whereby the ban is revoked and Bucknor / Benson stood down. Tour goes on, face saved, everyone happy.

Except for Dalmiya unkil, of course - getting the test annulled - that was a classic.:p Reminds me of childhood cricket days - meri bat, isliye ya to meri baat man nahin to apna bat lekar mein chala.

Interesting info, from Prem Panicker (with Rediff, has a number of good friends on the team)

National honor, my foot!

This story is based on sources I am not in a position to reveal; read into it as much, or as little, as you like: The Indian team is not staying behind in Sydney at the behest of the BCCI; it is refusing to stir until and unless the BCCI takes some definite action. The mood within the team is one of substantial anger, directed in particular against BCCI boss Sharad Pawar who, the team believes, let them down with his pacifist statement of this morning to the effect that India does not want its relations with Australia spoilt.

The team thinking is that they are being robbed on the cricket field and dubbed racist off it, and if ever there was a time for the Board to back it, this is it. Increasingly, it believes that some sort of wishy-washy compromise will be worked out, and the prospect has left the team, particularly the seniors, fuming.
Meanwhile back home, matters are moving further towards a compromise—at the behest of Pawar himself, who is understood to have instructed his henchmen, particularly Lalit Modi, that on no account does he want the current imbroglio to impact on the prospects of the IPL, which depends on some of the high profile Aussies for its marquee value. With that instruction front and center, various board officials have been working through the day to figure out a formula acceptable to all.
The modality being worked out (remember this is in the preliminary stage, and could change) is that the appeal will be kept on ice, and Harbhajan will be allowed to play on the grounds that the appeal is pending. The team will be told that the BCCI has already worked magic of sorts by forcing Bucknor out of the third Test panel, and asked to soldier on; if push comes to shove, some financial inducements could be tossed in, to sweeten the kitty.
Thus, or so the Board’s managers currently think, everyone will be happy: the charge against Bajji will remain, but the team can play on, and at some point, the appeal will be ‘heard’, and the sentence on the off spinner will be ‘suspended’, and there will be a pious pronouncement that all parties have been made aware of the seriousness and in the event of something like this happening again blah blah…
As of this moment, the team is aware of this possibility, and doesn’t like it one bit.
Updates, as and when… meanwhile, am done for the day, see you guys tomorrow.

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

LETS "JOG" OUR MEMORIES !!!!
WHO CAN FORGET THE DENIAL OF WIN FOR THE VISITORS......DURING PAKISTAN'S TOUR OF KANGROOLAND--- OCT-DEC'99 FOR THREE TEST SERIES UNDER WASIM AKRAM.............

MIRCH LAGGEE TOW PAROSI BHI CHEEKHAA!!!
AUR SAHEE CHEEKHAA....KIYONKAY HUM TOW APNI POLITICS MEIN INVOLVE RAHAY...................!!!

ANYWAY...here are some RULES coming up soon (for adoption..now that the ICC Board has approved them!)

**(1) Ricky Ponting – (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AND WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED) should be considered as the FOURTH UMPIRE. As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will override any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE. **

**(2) While AUSTRALIAN TEAM is bowling, If the ball flies anywhere close to the AUSTRALIAN FIELDER (WITHIN 5 metre distance), the batsman is to be considered OUT irrelevant to whether the catch was taken cleanly or grassed. Any decision for further clarification should be sought from the FOURTH UMPIRE. This is made to ensure that the cricket is played with SPORTIVE SPIRIT by all the teams. **

**(3) While BATTING, AUSTRALIAN players will wait for the ON-FIELD UMPIRE decisions only (even if the catch goes to the FIFTH SLIP as the ball might not have touched the bat). Each AUSTRALIAN batsman has to be out FOUR TIMES (minimum) before he can return to the pavilion. In case of a CRICKETER WITH INTEGRITY, this can be higher. **

**(4) UMPIRES should consider a huge bonus if an AUSTRALIAN player scores a century. Any wrong decisions can be ignored as they will be paid huge bonus and will receive the backing of the AUSTRALIAN team and Board. **

5) All AUSTRALIAN players are eligible to keep commenting about all players on the field and the OPPONENT TEAMS should never comment as they will be spoiling the spirit of the AUSTRALIAN team. Any comments made in any other language are to be considered as RACIALISM only (Australians also consider calling one a “Monkey, Donkey, Cat, Dog, Mouse, Rat” a racist remark).

**(6) MATCH REFEREE decisions will be taken purely on the AUSTRALIAN TEAM advices only. Player views and decisions from the other teams will not be considered for hearing. MATCH REFEREES are to be given huge bonus if this rule is implemented. **

**(7) NO VISITING TEAM should plan to win in AUSTRALIA. This is to ensure that the sportive spirit of CRICKET is maintained. **

**(8) THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE: If any bowler gets RICKY PONTING - “THE UNDISPUTED CRICKETER WITH INTEGTIRY IN THE GAME OF CRICKET” more than twice in a series, he will be banned for the REST OF THE SERIES. This is to ensure that the best batsman/Captain will be played to break records and create history in the game of CRICKET. **

*These rules will clarify better to the all the teams VISITING AUSTRALIA. *

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

Bowling a negative line is perfectly legal and well within the rights of the spirit of the game and its rules. Warne did do in the third Ashes Test in 2005 at Old Trafford, and it eventually led to Aus being able to draw the match.

The aforementioned tactics are able to be combatted if a batsmen is good enough and the comparison to claiming grounded catches is completely ridiculous.

I love how Ponting was innocent in first innings when he claimed he was unsure whether Dravid's catch carried but then when the stakes rose and the victory was resting on the decision, he decides to lie.

All in all, Aus played at a new low in terms of integrity, even for them.

As for Harbhajan, he can call Symonds whatever the hell he wants. A few years ago, they stopped having mics that recorded onfield discussion at the request of the Aus' because they didn't want their obscene profanity heard.

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

its not

its when a black person calls another black person nigga, or pakistani person calls another pakistani, paki

but when a pakistani calls a black person nigga or when a black guy calls a pakistani a paki, then its racist

Re: India suspends the Ind-Aus tour

^ Theres yet no evidence that Harbajan called Symonds a MOnkey apart from the fact that Symonds claims and Ricky supported him........

I will take Tendys word any day over any of the Aussies even thou he is an indian.
