We get flyers on a daily basis for a lot of maid services and handy men services advertising in our neighborhood. One of those flyers said "Husband for Rent" meaning handy man services.
Naturally reading an article that say "wives for rent" makes me wonder if the article is talking about maid services or prostitution.
It is interesting to note that the bizarre practice of dowary is exists when there is a shortage of women in India. How dare men demand money when they are blessed with a companion in their lives. This dispicable practice of dowary is not only practiced by hindus but also muslims (whether it is identified and acknowledged as such).

^^Yasmeen, It does exist in muslims (especially south Asian) but it's nothing compared to hindus. I thought only jaahil and backward hindus take dowry but highly rich and educated families are almost same. If boy is a graduate, girl's family will need to pay Rs 200,000 for his education etc ( WTF??? girls are equally educated then who will pay for their edcation???) and if boy has done Masters he will be worth Rs 500,000 or something (that's fully sick).

The reported situation is not Polyandry. The definition of Polyandry (Greek: poly many, andros man) means a female forming a stable sexual union with more than one male.
In the article example, the woman is not married to the 2 men, nor is there a stable sexual union initiated by her; it seems like the husband is pimping her out. This constitutes prostitution.
There are a number of reasons that Polyandry is not condoned by muslims. However, Polygyny is condoned but not purported by Islam. The rules regarding these types of marriages came down when Islam had a shortage of men and women depended on men for their financial well being. Thus Polygyny was adopted during those times as a means to provide social services to the many widowed and unmarried wives.
I personally do not condone either polyandry or polygyny, and certainly not the prostition that is occurring.

The case would probably be analogous to Indian infanticide if 10 million women were raped and traded in Pakistan…

People can't be pointing fingers at each other saying "this doesn't happen in my country but your's". To be honest, the social plagues of both countries are almost same. We've had the same culture for centuries and lived side by side for centuries and adopted habits from each other. The social plagues of the South Asian region are not due to either religion, they are far more intertwined with the culture. prostitution, child marriages, domestic violence, child molestation, occur in both countries. We should put our heads together to eradicate these social injustices instead of pointing fingers.

Because logically and aesthetically, it makes much more sense to come home to your house and say Salam to 4 mothers knowing which one is the biological rather than coming home to 4 fathers and not knowing which one is yours…
