India is not an Islamic nation. The school is a private body and has the right to institute a dress code which is uniform for every student.
Some schools mandate skirts as the uniform for girls. So are you going to make an issue about how Islam does not allow girls to expose their legs and so they should wear a burqa ??
Well, atleast they Muslims of India know what their rights are.
Yeah, but your not a real democracy, your sham democracy.
i really enjoy when a citizen of pakistan delivers lecture on democracy...in medical terms it is a symtom of psychosis but for us it is a good entertainment.

Im not a citizen of Pakistan... Im an American citizen. None the less, Pakistan will always be my real home.
And last I checked, Paksitan IS a democracy!
And I really love it when a brain washed Indian, who hasnt watched anything his entire life other then Bollywood garbage, lectures others on democracy.
Why not see a real democracy in action before you start harping over the flawed Hindu version?!?!? :)

Re: India: Karnataka college keeps girl out for wearing headscarf
I am no supporter of burqa or a headscarf, but it is not the college's business to compell the student not to wear it, since there is no college uniform. Interestingly, in the same state, girls were attacked for going to a pub and not following their culture. Here in this case at least this girl is actually following her culture 'without hurting someone else's religious sentiments' or breaking the college rules. She surely has a right to attend classes and educate herself. Especially if it is felt that burqa is discriminatory against women, she can make a more mature and informed choice if allowed to continue her studies rather than made to sit home.
The college did not have an dress code which explicitly banned burqa. It was done after the incident. While I agree wearing burqa creates difficulties which can be avoided, I think the college went overboard in preventing her to wear burqa.

I agree with it, rather the guy who objected first for her wearing a headscarf should have been rusticated for spreading communal hatred in college premises. If the college doesnt have a dress code, than there is no way they can stop any girl from wearing headscarf.
MANGALORE: The Sri Venkatarama Swamy (SVS) College in Bantwal has restricted a first year BCom student from attending the classes till she conforms
to the rules and regulations of the college*, which is not to display her religious identity, the headscarf.*
To all crying babes in this thread, pls read the above lines from the news.....
On what grounds ,she can defy rules and regulations?

I am not sure if such a rule existed before this incident. The rule was enacted after the incident as far as my sources tell me...

While the college did not explicitly ban burqa, it had rules & regulations regarding "not displaying religious identity". Those rules have been in place since before this incident.
